Recap / The Nostalgia Critic Video Game Review

Go To

Release: August 3, 2008

Video Game: Bebe's Kids (1993)

This review contains examples of:

  • Big "SHUT UP!": The Critic gives one to the Guitar Guy at the end of the review.
  • Cast Speciation: The Critic assumes this, thinking that LeShawn is faster than Kahlil, but when he actually plays as her...
NC: Oh, wha—? She's the exact same speed! In fact, I think she might even be a little slower! You bag of ass!
  • Manipulative Editing: When discussing the film itself, he notes that the trailer can't even come up with anything to say other than "It's animation..." In reality, the tagline was "It's animation, with an attitude." In all fairness, though, the trailer for the film actually was advertised like that.
    • Another one happens when the Critic runs out of time at the haunted house, when the timer suddenly jumped from 34 to 1, and the score suddenly went up.
  • No Name Given: He never refers to Kahlil, LeShawn, Robin, and Leon by name. In fact, when Leon and Robin show up in the House of Glass level, he calls them "a baby" and "a guy".
  • Overly Long Gag: The scene where he believes it takes a whopping 35 hits just to take down a single enemy in the game. And then he finds out another attack which can do the job in just three...
  • Rage Quit: He finally becomes so fed up with the time limits that he goes absolutely apeshit on the game, smashing it to pieces.
  • Read the Freaking Manual: Subverted. He touches on how the manual for the game would probably help him, but argues that he thinks the developers are giving the game’s players too much credit- like that they can read.
  • Skyward Scream: He does this when hit with the time limit in the Haunted House, sounding like a roaring T.Rex before he proceeds to destroy the game.
  • Song Parody: The Angry Video Game Nerd theme is given new lyrics relating to The Nostalgia Critic.
  • Spit Take: Downs a bottle of Rolling Rock, only to spit it out in disgust. Doubles as a Take That! to the Nerd, as Rolling Rock is his favorite beer.
  • Sting: When The Critic thinks he realizes what "No Bevis, no vibes" means. Absolutely nothing!
  • Swapped Roles: The Angry Video Game Nerd reviewed the obscure Rocky parody Ricky 1, while The Critic reviewed the video game adaption of Bébé's Kids. Neither liked their switched jobs very much.
  • Trivially Obvious: Before playing the game, he briefly discusses the film itself, and claims that the trailer presented the Tagline of “It’s animation”. note
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: The Critic is about to finally beat the Haunted House level when he runs out of time. He finally destroys the game at this point.
