Go To

Release: March 16, 2010

Film: Bio-Dome (1996)

Tagline: Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin... need we say more?

This review has examples of:

  • Actor Allusion: In-Universe, the Critic consistently refers to Dr. Noah Faulkner as "Walter Peck", on account of both being environmentalist antagonists played by William Atherton.
  • Brick Joke: The Critic showing a clip of Christopher Lloyd saying "I was frozen today" to him at a convention; a caption appears after the review assuring the audience it was for real.
  • Call-Back: "I was frozen today", first used in the Suburban Commando review.
  • The Cameo: Lewis "Linkara" Lovhaug appears as the "90's Kid" who tries to demonstrate to the Critic how rebellious teenagers in The '90s live.
  • Catchphrase Interruptus: To himself at the beginning:
Critic: Hellooooo, I'm the Nostalgia Critic, I remember it- I FUCKING HATE BIODOME, I FUCKING HATE BIODOME, I FUCKING HATE BIODOME, I FUCKING HATE IT! I HATE IT! I HATE IT!! I HATE IT!!! I HATE IT!!!! (uluating war cry)
  • Crosses the Line Twice: He puts this card into play during the scene where Bud and Doyle grope the two women scientists in their sleep before being chased out.
Critic: Heheheh, we're rapists and adulterers!
    • He also puts this into play by comparing the duo's loud antics to a child being murdered, complete with the sound effects edited over one of their many pointless scenes.
  • Cue the Flying Pigs: The Critic at one point says that the film is going so far out of its way to kill any humor it could provide that the only thing missing is a clown getting killed. Cut to a scene with a news flash of a clown being assassinated in a drive-by that Makes Just as Much Sense in Context. The Critic, shocked at that, then says that the movie is actually trying to kill comedy itself.
  • "Friends" Rent Control: Discussed and deconstructed when the Critic points out that Bio-Dome was one of numerous movies from the '90s featuring stupid young people with no steady jobs but had decent places to live. Then 90's Kid shows up, and it's subverted when the landlord gives him an eviction notice, enforced with a shotgun.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: After he goes crazy with his Catchphrase Interruptus, the Critic gets a bucket of water dumped on him to make him stop.
  • Hell Is That Noise: The Critic compares Bud and Doyle's voices to a child being murdered.
  • Hope Spot: He's absolutely relieved when Tenacious D appears onscreen.......only for them to get brushed aside just as quickly after the fact.
Critic (regarding Tenacious D): REAL COMEDY!!! REAL COMEDY AT LAST!!!
  • Literal Metaphor: The Critic claims he is physically hurt by the gaping Plot Hole of the supposedly hermetically-sealed Bio-Dome having a window with a key left intact which allowed Bud and Doyle to escape.
  • Moral Event Horizon: In-Universe example. He accuses the film of legitimately trying to kill comedy after a scene where a clown gets shot.
  • Never Say That Again:
Doyle: Bio-Dome. You think that means it goes both ways?
Bud: I don't know, but we do. (pretends to kiss Doyle while making an obnoxious noise and waggling tongue)
Critic: NEVER DO THAT AGAIN, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
  • Rooting for the Empire: In-universe, the Critic takes Faulkner's side when the now mad scientist goes out of his way to try and kill Bud and Doyle, saying that it's for the "greater good".
  • Running Gag: Clips from Ghostbusters accompany various clips with Dr. Noah Faulkner.
  • Subverted Catchphrase: Hardly had the Critic finished his opening Catchphrase midway when he immediately rants about how much he "fucking hate[s] Bio-Dome". He proceeds to freak out until he is calmed down after being doused with a bucket of water.
  • Shout-Out: He follows his speech of Bud and Doyle's death being for the greater good with a clip from Hot Fuzz with that exact line.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: In-universe, the Critic has absolutely zero remorse for Bud and Doyle (or the two actors who play them) when Faulkner attempts to kill them.

"BULLshit!"
