Film: Suburban Commando (1991)

This review contains examples of:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: While the Critic found most of the movie lame, he did genuinely like the lines by the tough guys in the neighborhood.
    Tough guy: Hey, Goldilocks!
    Critic: (chuckles) That was funny.
Tough guy: You got any idea what we’re gonna do to you if we find one itty-bitty scratch on 'em?
Shep: Let me guess. You’re gonna pound my face, break every bone in my body, then you’re gonna drag me across the gravel road and feed my remains to a warthog. Is that about right?
Critic: (as Shep) Cause that would really turn me on!
Tough guy: ...What are you, nuts?! This is the '90s. We're gonna sue ya.
Critic: (chuckles) That was also funny. The movie clearly should've been about these guys.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: When referencing Charlie chickening out when driving through a yellow light:
Critic: That's not funny. But don’t worry. It's a running joke, so they'll repeat it several times until you have no choice but to find it funny! But who am I to argue with running jokes Big-Lipped Alligator Moment, Elephant, Chuck Norris? (Big-Lipped Alligator Moment, The Burger King, and Chuck Norris all appear in rapid succession) invoked
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": The Critic's reaction to Shelly Duvall flirting with Christopher Lloyd, with him insisting that they're in a Sexless Marriage and the kids are adopted.
  • The Stinger: "...and it was After Burner!"
  • With Lyrics: The Critic gives the Star Wars theme some lyrics when the opening to Suburban Commando is shown:
Critic: (singing) Riiiiiip-off, this is a riiiiip-off! This is a riiiiiip-off, are you kidding?!
