• Broken Record: Critic screams many screams in quick succession in response to Gordon the foot-thing.
• Call-Back: When Critic asks who would go around wearing a leather jacket and hair gel like Roger Klotz, Lucas shows up.
• *Cough* Snark *Cough*: Critic compares the premise of Aaahh!!! Real Monsters to Monsters, Inc. and says "Bullshit!" in this manner.
• Faux Horrific: Doug is this to Critic, due to the fact that he was made fun of for being named Doug in his youth.
• Freudian Slippery Slope
  Critic: But whereas The Simpsons got funny, Doug just psychologically tortured me for life. I mean, uh, psychologically tortured anyone named Doug for life. (nervous laugh; Beat) NEXT SHOW!
• Hypocritical Humor: When the Critic blasts Rocko for ripping something off, he starts doing Daffy's rant from Duck Amuck. He soon notices the Daffy clip next to him and pushes it away.
• Noodle Incident: Critic mentions that when he had another one of his psychotic episodes from Doug, he's relieved that he didn't murder anybody because of it... only to see that there's blood on his hands.
• Running Gag: When Critic describes a seemingly boring or lame premise, he would say "ADVENTURE HO!", saying it less enthusiastically each time.
• Shout-Out
  • Critic calls Heffer an inbred version of Patrick Star and the Bigheads "the Grinch's testicles if they sprouted legs and started complaining about everything".
  • Doug is compared to early episodes of The Simpsons.
  • Critic calls the ending to the Rocko episode "Rinse and Spit" a ripoff of the Monty Python sketch it was based on.
• Squick: In-universe: This is how The Critic reacts to Rugrats and its Toilet Humour.
  Chuckie: They're trying to make me use that (indicating toilet) instead of my diaper!
  Phil: Aw, that can't happen.
  Lil: Yeah, how's it gonna fit in your pants?
  Critic: Awww, that's just precious.
  Tommy: Maybe you could just stop pooping altogether.
  Critic: And that's just gross.
  Lil: Maybe you could stuff some napkins down your pants and use it as a diaper.
  Critic: That's even grosser.
  Phil: Maybe you could poop in your room and hide it in your toy box.
  Critic: STOP!!! STOP!!! Look, whether you call it "poopy" or "poo poo" or whatever, it's still shit! You're talking about shit! Knock it off! You're grossing me out!!!
  Chuckie: [wets himself] Uh-oh.
  Critic: Oh, that's charming.
• Toilet Humour: The Critic describes the music in Doug as literally farting out its soundtrack.
  Conan: We're gonna need a faster tempo. Howard! More pork and beans!
• What the Hell Is That Accent?: The Critic is confused by what accent Oblina has.
  Critic: It's like somebody said, "This character has an accent." "Oh, okay which kind?" "(irritated) Just... an accent!"
