Lost, Found, Fucked

The Monster searches for the God of War, Margo tries to find Ember, and Marina attempts to break Dean Fogg's spell.

Tropes That Appear In This Episode:

  • Blood Magic: Summoning Enyalius requires sacrificing a piglet.
  • Brutal Honesty: After being injected with the memory potion by Marina, Dean Fogg goes around campus being completely honest with everyone he meets, partially to get it off his chest and partially so Todd can record it all.
  • Call-Back: Margo notes that she used to follow Bacchus on Instagram, before they kicked him off.
  • Exploited Immunity: The battery is enchanted to repel anyone trying to tamper with with deadly force. Julia is immortal. She simply repeats trying until the battery is drained.
  • Fate Worse than Death: When Quentin refuses to kill the piglet for the Monster and insists the Monster just kill him, the Monster replies that he would never do that. He then starts breaking Quentin's limbs to make him comply.
  • Gag Penis: "Isaac" had one of these, and Josh is a bit disappointed when he reverts to his old body.
  • Imperfect Ritual: Zig-zagged. The ritual itself was perfect, but it summoned a priest of Enyalius rather than the real deal. Looking at "Enyalius's" true identity, though, it was very likely to have been a prank.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: The gods took the Monster's memories when they imprisoned it. It intends to kill them to get those memories back.
  • Phlebotinum Overload: Todd and Julia learn that Dean Fogg created a perpetually-regenerating magical battery to power the glamour enchantment. Julia tries to touch the battery, only for it to lethally repel her. However, she revives moments later. Taking advantage of this, Julia keeps triggering the countermeasure until it siphons off enough energy that the battery can't keep up with the drain, going dormant and breaking the spell.
  • The Reveal: It seems that the threat Ember wants handled is Bacchus, who has moved into Fillory impersonating Ember and is messing with the land for his own amusement. Being a god, however, means there's nothing Margo can do to stop him. He just teleports her back to Earth when he gets annoyed.
  • Sadistic Choice: Marina gives Dean Fogg his own memory potion so he'll be forced to either cure it or let her craft a new identity for him, one she promises won't be kind. Fogg goes for the second option, as the safety of his students means more to him than his own. He does, however, leave Julia just enough clues that she can work out how to break the spell on her own.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: The Monster has Quentin wrangle up a piglet for use in a sacrifice. When Quentin asks why he doesn't just conjure one up, the Monster explains that the piglet has to be caught by a human to work; specifically, it needs the sweat from the effort expended catching it.
