Recap / The Looney Tunes Show S1 E21 "French Fries"

Go To

The twenty-first episode of the first season of The Looney Tunes Show.

Daffy becomes angry when, at lunch, Porky eats some of his French fries, thinking that they're for the table.

This episode features the "President's Day" Merrie Melodies music video.

"French Fries" contains examples of:

  • Artistic License – History: In the "President's Day" Merrie Melodies music video, Lola has some pretty novel ideas on which celebrities were the Presidents of the United States and what they accomplished. Among others, Oscar de la Hoya apparently single-handedly won the American Revolutionary War while Al Pacino fought at the Alamo, alongside his Vice-President, Robert De Niro.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The "President's Day" Merrie Melodies music video begins with Lola dressed in a winter coat and singing festively about celebrating her favorite holiday underneath a tree covered in Christmas lights. She then says that her favorite holiday is President's Day.
  • Big "NO!": Bugs does this when Porky tears up the tickets to the playoffs.
  • Brick Joke: Speedy suggests Porky grow a beard to help him get a girlfriend. Porky is later revealed to listen to said advice and grow a beard. He is show to be popular with women as a result.
  • Epic Fail: Daffy attempting to "coffee kick" Bugs like in his favourite show.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Daffy gets ticked off at Porky for eating what he thought were his French fries. Then Porky gets ticked off at Bugs for referring to the fries as Daffy's fries and asks if he's on Daffy's side, despite Bugs' insistence that he's not on anybody's side.
  • Feud Episode: Daffy gets into a feud with Porky in this episode over who bought the french fries at Pizzaribba. As a result, Porky uninvites him and Bugs from the football game that he was going to take them to. Bugs tries unsuccessfully to get the two to make up by sending them apology cards and gift baskets with each others' names, not because he cares about their feud, but because he wants to see the football game. Near the end of the episode, Daffy finds out from Speedy that the fries were for the table, which earns Daffy an angry stare from Porky as a result.
  • Forged Message: Not wanting to miss out on the football game that Porky bought tickets for, Bugs sends Daffy and Porky apology cards with gift baskets and signs each other's name. At first, this seems to work, but soon Daffy and Porky get back to arguing with each other. Bugs flat-out admits he wrote the cards and that he doesn't care about their feud and just wants to see the game, Porky snaps and rips up the tickets so none of them can go.
  • Guilt by Association Gag: When they both get in fight, Porky refuses to take Daffy and Bugs to the football game, due to the latter being associated with the former.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Daffy is enraged when Porky eats some of his fries (well, as it turns out they were actually for the table, but still), but has no problem eating some of Porky's pizza.
    • Speedy gives Porky a hard time about not having a girlfriend... despite the fact that he doesn't have a girlfriend either.
  • Jerkass Ball: Porky takes it up to eleven when Daffy accuses him of eating what he thinks are his French fries, and not only does Porky uninvite Daffy to the football, he also uninvites Bugs, despite him being on nobody's side.
  • Karma Houdini: Porky never gets punished for ripping apart Bugs' ticket along with Daffy's ticket, despite Bugs having no involvement in the argument whatsoever, unless you count Daffy eating his slice of pizza.
  • Large Ham: Daffy is one for much of the episode.
Daffy: That is a garbage move! Porky is a piece of garbage!
Bugs: Don't ya think you're bein' a little dramatic?
Daffy: I am not being dramatic!
  • Only Sane Man: Poor Bugs... he just doesn't care about Daffy and Porky's feud over whether the french fries were for the former, or for the entire table, he's stuck in the middle of it, and didn't get invited to the football game over it, and just wants the two to make up just to go to the game.
  • Removed from the Picture: A non-romantic variant; when Daffy ends his friendship with Porky, he rips him out of photos of them from Bugs' photo album. When Bugs finds Daffy doing this, he tells Daffy that most of the photos he ripped out are of him. Daffy tells him that he only had two photos of Porky, but by then, he was on a roll.
  • Running Gag:
    • Yosemite Sam breaking other peoples' windows, then running off nervously... and getting attacked by a dog.
    • Daffy calling Porky a "piece of garbage".
    • Speedy giving Porky a hard time about not having a girlfriend and suggesting that he grow a beard.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Yosemite Sam puts on cowboy boots instead of cleats before going onto the football field because according to him, "a pointy toe will make the ball fly true". He ends up slipping the moment he steps onto the field because he's not wearing proper footwear. He tries to give his boots grip by filing away at them, but that only makes things worse because the "cowboy cleats" have heels that get stuck in the ground, leading him to trip and break his leg.
  • Wham Line: Speedy ends up proving Porky right without so much as talking to Porky.
Daffy: I never got my side of fries!
    Speedy: What side of fries?
Daffy: The fries that come with the meatball sub.
Speedy: Fries don't come with the meatball sub!
    Daffy: They did last time.
Speedy: No, they didn't. I just gave them to you guys, compliments of the house. Y-You know, for the table!

French Fries

Porky eating what Daffy believes to be his french fries is considered such a big deal by him, that he outright declares that he and Porky are no longer friends.
