Recap / The Lion Guard S 2 E 19 The Kilio Valley Fire

Go To

Summary: After Scar's minions set fire to Kilio Valley, the misplaced elephants are forced to the Pride Lands and create chaos amongst the other herds.

This episode contains examples of:

  • The Bad Guy Wins: Scar and his minions succeed in burning down Kilio Valley, and thus claiming a portion of the Pride Lands as their own.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The elephants get to stay in the Pride Lands with the galagos, but Kilio Valley is still burned down and claimed by the Outlanders.
  • Brutal Honesty: Zito is quite direct about his blame on the Lion Guard for Kilio Valley being burned down.
  • Call-Back: One to "The Little Guy"; Kiburi still has an aversion to singing.
  • Call-Forward: The Outlanders set fire to Kilio Valley with torches to attack their enemies as part of a larger gambit, just like how Nuka and Vitani eventually will cause a wildfire in the sequel.
  • Death from Above: It was the Vultures who set fire on Kilio Valley by dropping torches.
  • Disapproving Look: Mtoto's mother and the younger elephants give one to Zito when he refuses to help the other elephants and the Guard in saving the galagos' home. He doesn't notice.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Kion when he figures out Scar is behind the fire.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Zito acts pretty harsh towards the Guard since he blames them for Kilio Valley burning down, but he does come to the aid of the galagos when their home is in danger of burning down, though.
  • Musical World Hypotheses: When everyone turns to Kiburi to sing a verse of "I'm Gonna Run This Dump", Kiburi simply remarks "I don't sing", and the song continues without him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After realising Scar was planning on taking over Kilio Valley, Kion starts to feel guilty about helping Scar take over the Pridelands (likely due to realising he unwittingly bought him back from the dead).
  • Shout-Out: Kiburi plainly saying "I don't sing" while everyone looks at him is a reference to Tangled.
  • Villain Song: "I'm Gonna Run This Dump", sung by Janja, Reirei, and Mzingo.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: The hyenas, jackals, crocodiles, and vultures get into a fight over who gets to run the burnt-down Kilio Valley.
  • We Wait: Apparently, Scar needs Kilio Valley as a staging point, so the Outlanders need to hold the territory and have to await further instructions.
  • Wham Episode: This episode marks the beginning of Scar’s proper war on the Pride Lands, as he successfully conquers Kilio Valley and nearly drives the elephant herd out of the kingdom in the process.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: With Kilio Valley burned down, and thus under the occupation of Scar, the elephants are forced to find a new home. This also applies to the Outlanders, who are forced to stay in the ruined valley on Scar's orders.
