• Androcles' Lion: Jack encounters the worm monster he injured in episode 1 of the season again, and he realizes the monster isn't so bad. He and the others actually patch up the wound Jack inflicted and thus gain the creature's trust. This trope fully pays off for them in the next episode.
• Darkest Hour: At the end of the episode, Thrull has the bestiary and has also taken Quint hostage, while Jack, Dirk and June are locked up in a cage and seemingly about to be killed by Bardle.
• Made of Indestructium: All attempts by the kids to destroy the bestiary, from trying to tear it apart, smashing it, burning it, running it over with their car and even blowing it up with fireworks, prove futile. The book is simply indestructible. Thrull even mocks them for trying when he hears about it.
• Oh, Crap!: Jack when he sees Thrull is in the treehouse, and when Thrull reveals that he knows they know about his true nature.
