• Achilles' Heel: Plants and vines are easily killed by weed killer. Thrull finds this out the hard way after merging with the Tree and being killed with weed killer.
• Androcles' Lion: After the kids showed him kindness and treated his wound in the previous episode, the worm creature now comes to their aid and helps fight Thrull.
• Assimilation Backfire: Thrull merging with the Tree of Entry gives him immense size and power, with the ability to control both zombies and the alien vines, but it also gives him a vulnerability to weed killer that ends up killing him.
• Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Thrull, after he merges with the Tree of Entry.
• Base on Wheels: Not wheels exactly, but the treehouse becomes mobile after the worm monster uproots it and takes it for a ride.
• Chekhov's Gun:
  • Quint uses one of the quills of the eye monster from "The Zombie Parade" to stab Thrull, causing him to start crying uncontrollably and rendering him unable to read the book. It wears off pretty quickly, though.
  • The suit of armor that Jack looted from the mall earlier this season is used by him for a final attack against Thrull.
• Drives Like Crazy: Bardle, when he takes the kids' car to reach Joe's pizza. Justified, since it's his first time driving.
• Feed It a Bomb: Jack angers Thrull into eating him, thus allowing Jack to detonate several barrels of weed killer inside Thrull.
• Good All Along: Bardle is revealed to be this, as he frees the kids from their cage, helps lead the fight against Thrull, and even helps restore the treehouse at the end of the episode.
• Hypocrite: When Thrull mocks Jack for being nothing without his friends, Jack retaliates by pointing out how Thrull is also constantly relying on others (he needed them to complete the bestiary, and he had to merge with the Tree of Entry in order to fight the kids).
• Running Gag: A character shouting "Wait...what!" whenever something surprises them.
• Trash the Set: The treehouse is wrecked by Thrull. However, it is restored at the end of the episode.
• When Trees Attack: Thrull becomes a giant tree monster after merging with the Tree of Entry.
