Recap / The Interns S 6 E 4

Go To

Lobanov just can't take seriously his midget patient, and instantly bursts into laugh whenever he says something funny, like him being a basketball player, or being injured by a dog... of a toy-terrier breed. Now, the patient wants to sue Semyon. Kisegach failed to calm him down, and now Lobanov needs attorney. But he knows only one — his ex-wife, Olga. Olga helps Semyon to deal with his patient (while Semyon still must pay him some money, it would be much less painful than actual lawsuit), but now she realised that she still has some feelings for Semyon... while he is now in a new relationship.

One of Bykov's patients wants to meet Kupitman, to whom she's attracted. Kupitman thinks that it is an attractive brunette he'd met earlier; Bykov knows that it is, in fact, a fat old woman with two adult children and two grandsons (coincidentally, she's also brunette), but never corrects him. Kupitman barely manages to avoid his admirer (by telling her that Bykov is in love with her and he doesn't want to harm his feelings), but Bykov retaliates by organising a date for them in a restaurant (Kupitman only learns that Bykov invited him here as a trap when it's already too late to run).

Phil is in dire need for woman, but he fears that he would be unable to find any by himself, and asks Gleb for help. Gleb refuses him, but later, when he busts him with Lyuba and without pants (Phil spilled a hot tea on himself; but Gleb, obviously, mistook it for something else and doesn't believe Phil when he tries to explain), he agrees, since now he knows just how bad the situation is. They manages to find a girl who agrees to ride to their apartment, but once both Gleb and Phil gets drunk, she robs them. And now, Lyuba knows why this happened and feels insulted by them considering some random con artist to be better than her.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Kupitman's new admirer is a fat old woman (and "old" means "she has a son, a daughter and two grandsons"). When Kupitman realises that Bykov sent her to him intentionally, he (jokingly) tries to choke him with a pillow.
  • Amicable Exes: Initial anger died out, and now Olga can speak with Semyon without hostility. In fact, she sometimes misses their old days. She doesn't know, yet, that Semyon already has a new girlfriend.
  • The Bus Came Back: Lobanov needs attorney (he's on the brink of lawsuit due to offending his patient), but he knows only one: his ex-wife, Olga, who had divorced him in the season three and permanently leaved his life.
  • Brain Bleach: When Gleb busts Lyuba grabbing (pants-less, only in his undies) Phil by his crotch, he looks at them with "I want to un-see this" expression and says: "I probably accidentally opened a door into some parallel world..."
  • That Came Out Wrong: When Lobanov's midget patient tells Kisegach that he wants to sue Semyon, she makes several awkward comments when trying to say that he's overreacting:
Kisegach: And you want to sue him for this? Don't you think that it's too small issue for such measurements? Oh, I meant, insignificant...
  • Condescending Compassion: When Phil explains why Gleb agreed to help him to find a girl in the first place (while initially he refused), Lyuba considers his explanation to be insulting: Gleb only agreed to help Phil because Lyuba is "absolute low point", worse than even some random con artist.
  • Exact Words: One of Bykov's patients, whom Kupitman had met this morning, wants to meet Ivan Natanovich in person, since she's attracted to him. Kupitman asks Bykov wether she's brunette (meaning that attractive girl he had met earlier). Bykov knows that it, in fact, was a fat old woman, but never corrects Kupitman.
  • Honey Trap: The girl whom Phil and Gleb found in the club is one of those con artists who finds "clients" in the clubs, drugs them and then robs (sometimes even kills).
  • Innocently Insensitive: Lobanov never wanted to insult his midget patient; he just can't hold his laugh when he starts telling things like being a basketball player, or being injured by a dog... of toy-terrier breed. Him having a punny surname does not help. But the patient takes this very seriously and decides to sue Lobanov.
  • Love Triangle: Olga still has some feelings to Semyon despite previously divorcing him. But Semyon is now in relationship with a psychiatrist Irina. What is it? Jealousy?..
  • Not What It Looks Like: Gleb busts Phil without his pants (in only his undies) and Lyuba grabbing his crotch. It leads him to obvious conclusions, but in reality, it was Lyuba attempting to help Phil, since he accidentally spilled (very hot) tea on his crotch, and she fears that he may be burned.
  • Out of Focus: Varya doesn't appear in this episode.
  • Punny Name: Surname of Lobanov's midget patient? "Bolshekov" (from the word "Bolshoy" — "Big").
  • Troll: Not only Bykov does not warn Kupitman about his new admirer; he later mocks him for being a "perfect match" for her: they're both old, and both're not exactly healthy. Kupitman later strikes back, by telling her that Bykov is secretly in love with her, and he can't be with her to not harm his friends' feelings. This works... until Bykov manipulates them both into ending up in the same restaurant simultaneously.
