Recap / The Interns S 4 E 17

Go To

While Kisegach is on vacation, she leaves Kupitman in charge. Unfortunately, no one takes him seriously, especially since he's quick to get drunk. And then he makes a fool out of himself when he (wasted) tries to announce the ban on alcohol via intercom, only to fail to pronounce "alcohol intoxication" after several attempts.

In Kupitman's absence, someone must take care of Venereology; Bykov sends Phil and Lobanov. Phil can't examine female patients, because the last time he tried (back in the USA), he accidentally brought her to orgasm, which led to her mistaking this for harassment and suing him (successfully). Now he fears that this may happen here as well; Semyon doesn't believe him. To avoid this, he asks the patients to sign a document stating that they would not attempt to sue him if this really happens. After seeing that Phil apparently wasn't kidding, Semyon decides to do everything by himself from now on... which results in him being accused of harassment by the very first patient whom he treats. Bykov is impressed: Phil somehow managed to corrupt Lobanov.

Gleb gets sent to work in archive for a whole day. Varya sees it as a chance, and decides to just tell Gleb everything outright... and wants to be locked with Gleb in the archive, with which Lyuba would help her. Unfortunately, Gleb (after drinking his beer) dreadfully needs to pee. And they have no means to call anyone, because they have no their phones with them, so they wouldn't distract them. Ultimately, Gleb gives up and pees on the floor, just when Bykov finally orders Lyuba to give him the keys and unlocks the door. Oops...

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Pervert: Phil was previously accused of harassment because he accidentally brought his patient to orgasm during her examination (she won the ensuing lawsuit). Now he's afraid that this can happen again. It does, but the patient likes it and doesn't get angry. Lobanov (who previously didn't believe him) attempts to "show him his place" and demonstrate that he is better even in that role... which leads to him being accused of harassment, and now being at risk of a lawsuit. Even Bykov gets shocked by just how badly he screwed up.
Bykov: Lobanov, you're a mushroom! Big horny toadstool! How your mycelium even came up with idea to do something like this?!
  • Authority in Name Only: Kupitman temporarily replaces Kisegach as a Chief Doctor... but no one takes him seriously, not even interns. Especially since he quickly gets wasted, but tries to announce the anti-alcohol rules (he can't even pronounce the world "alcohol" in his condition).
  • Beyond the Impossible: Phil manages to corrupt Lobanov even further, by teaching him something moronic he never tried before. Even Bykov is impressed.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Unlike Lobanov, Phil considers that there's nothing funny with Kupitman's drunk antics, because alcoholism is as serious as any other addiction.
  • Epic Fail: Kupitman tries to install the new rule banning any alcohol. He can't pronounce the phrase "alcohol intoxication" due to being too drunk, and ultimately gives up, skipping to the part about punishment.
  • Gave Up Too Soon: Gleb pees on the wall just when Bykov finally shows up to unlock them; had he resisted for a bit longer, he would've likely avoided being punished.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Varya's plan involves her and Gleb being locked together for a whole day. Unfortunately, Gleb (who just drink some beer before) now needs to pee, bad. And because Lyuba actually follows the plan, Bykov only gets into the archive when Gleb gets desperate enough to pee on the floor.
  • Potty Emergency: Varya's plan involves her and Gleb being locked together for a whole day. Unfortunately, Gleb (who just drink some beer before) now needs to pee, bad. And no, he can't use the beer can, because it was crushed by him. When everything else fails, he gets forced to pee on the floor... just in time for Bykov to appear.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Unsuccessfully Invoked by Bykov. He expects that he can exploit Kupitman being Kisegach's deputy, as they're friends. Kupitman refuses, since he thinks that by doing this he would let Anastasia down.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: Subverted. Kupitman attempts to enforce his strict rule, but no one takes him seriously, especially since he quickly gets wasted.
