Go To

Portland Warehouse Massacre is the third episode of Netflix's 2022 series The Imperfects.

The search for Sarkov leads Juan, Abbi and Tilda into a serriously messed up situation. A mysterious woman begins to zero in on her targets.

This episode provides example of:

  • Admiring the Abomination: Darcy views Juan's chupacabra form as a "majestic, noble beast" even though he almost killed her in the previous episode.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: You wanted to see what Juan's power was, Qamara? You got it, too bad you ended up dead after.
  • Cassandra Truth: Qamara refuses to believe Juan is a chupacabra when he first tells her. A few moments later, Juan shows that he wasn't joking after seing Qamara threatening her friends.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: When Juan doesn't show what his side effects are, Qamara opts to using a taser-esque device to get him to talk.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Qamara is torn apart by Juan in his Chupacabra form after she threatens to kill Abbi and Tilda.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: Nate (the leader of the Portland Biohackers) impersonates Maxwell, one of the "Wellness Program" subjects who died prior to the events of the episode, in order to lure the three protagonists into a trap so that he and the other two biohackers can experiment on them.
  • Death Glare: Juan gives one to Qamara when he tells her he's the "Terror of Tacoma" and threatens to rip her throat out.
  • Driven to Suicide: Melanie slits her own throat while under the influence of Abbi's pheromones, claiming that she can't live without Abbi.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Qamara was too busy trying to kill Abbi and Tilda that she doesn't notice Juan transforming right behind her until it's too late.
  • Faux Affably Evil: The Portland "bio-hackers" all act friendly towards the three main characters, but it is quickly revealed that they are sadistic scientists who plan on experimenting on them.
  • I Am a Monster: During his argument with Darcy, Juan all but states that he thinks this way of himself. Darcy disagrees, however.
"Don't you get it? I could have killed you. That thing is a monster".
  • Implied Death Threat: When Qamara is torturing him, Juan tells her that he will rip out her throat after he transforms into a chupacabra. He makes good on that promise, killing Qamara after she threatens to shoot both Abbi and Tilda.
  • It Is Dehumanising: Juan, during his arguement with Darcy, refers to his chupacabra form as "it" and "that thing". Darcy is quick to call him out on it.
  • I Warned You: After seeing Qamara threatening Abbi and Tilda, Juan transforms into his chupacabra form, which is something Qamara didn't think he could really do at first.
  • Kill It with Fire: How Isabel Finch kills Brian Yake, using Tert-Butyllithium (which catches fire upon making contact with air) "stolen" from Burke's lab.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Technically, more like "my God, what did I almost do?', but Juan is horrified that he almost killed Darcy in the previous episode. Darcy tries to talk him down, telling him that she doesn't see "Chupi" as a dangerous monster.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: Juan uses this in response to Darcy calling his chupacabra form "Chupi".
Darcy: I think you're being a little hard on Chupi
Juan: Don't name it. Don't name it!
  • Not So Above It All: In one scene, Abbi (who's usually the most level-headed of the three) teases Juan about his nickname of "Chupi".
  • Oh, Crap!: Qamara has this reaction when she sees Juan, in chupacabra form, standing right behind her and looking clearly intent on turning her into a meal.
  • Only in It for the Money: Implied. Qamara mentions that she and the other Portland biohackers can make billions off of Sarkov's synthetic stem cells.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Abbi tries to pull this off, managing to escape the portland warehouse. However, she quickly changes her mind and decides to help her friends.
    • Juan, after killing Qamara, Runs from the warehouse towards Alejendro's house.
  • Skewed Priorities: Darcy seems to be more concerned about making an accurate picture of "Chupi" than she does about her own health and safety.
    Juan: What the fuck?
Darcy: If you're going to get rid of him, at least let me see him one last time
Juan: Why would you do that
Darcy: I want to make sure I've got the proportions right.
  • The Sociopath: All three of the Portland biohackers certainly qualify. Qamara is probably the most violent and sadistic of the lot, however.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Qamara really should have listened when Juan told her he was a chupacabra.
  • Tranquil Fury: Juan goes into this when he's being tortured by Qamara, where he threatens to rip Qamara's throat out, while saying it in a calm manner.
"It's not a joke. I'm the Terror of Tacoma, and when I transform, I'm gonna rip your throat out"
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Near the start of the episode, Darcy calls Juan out for wanting to get rid of his chupacabra side (although she does support his decision to do so). Juan throws one right back at her for seeing "Chupi" as a "majestic, noble beast" rather than a dangerous monster than should be destroyed.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: During her and Juan's argument at the start of the episode, Darcy tells Juan that she doesn't see Chupi (and, by extension, Juan himself) as a dangerous monster, but rather as a noble beast that deserves to exist, and tries to make him realize that he isn't the monster he thinks he is.
