"We're building something here. Something for Dawn."
Written by Michael Horowitz
Directed by Michael Goi

Marcos: They said something's wrong with my baby.
Reeva: Your child has been diagnosed with a severe case of jaundice. Now, normally, this is easily treatable, but this case has been... stubborn.

Dawn is sick, so the Inner Circle seeks out Marcos to treat her. Lauren discovers her father's emerging powers. Jace decides to look into the Mutant Underground once more.

Tropes:

  • Absurdly Spacious Sewer: Where the Morlock community resides.
  • Blindfolded Trip: Marcos is forced to wear a black bag over his head for the trip to the Inner Circle, as they understandably don't want him to know where their hideout is.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Caitlin says about Reed and Lauren, "You can stop for ice cream. Or waffles. Or waffles and ice cream."
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Andy is obviously extremely torn up when Marcos comes to the Inner Circle's headquarters, which is the exact reason why Reeva picks him as her bodyguard, wanting to test his loyalty.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: For all his Heroic Willpower, Reeva mops the floor with Marcos in under a minute.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Marcos' little lightshow was visible throughout the entire eastern seaboard, drawing massive unwanted attention towards the Underground.
  • Double Agent: In exchange for the information on the Inner Circle, Erg wants Clarice at his beck and call.
  • Flashback: The episode starts with a flashback from 6 years ago, featuring Marcos visiting his estranged father on his deathbed.
  • Hassle-Free Hotwire: After crashing their own car due to Reed's Power Incontinence, he and Lauren get a new car this way.
  • Healing Hands: Marcos is able to heal Dawn's jaundice with his powers.
  • Heroic Willpower: Marcos manages to mentally overpower the Frost sisters thanks to his love for Lorna. That doesn't help him against Reeva, though, whose sonic scream prevents Marcos from aiming his light blasts before causing him to burn himself with his own powers.
  • Internal Reveal: Lauren and Caitlin learn about Reed's powers.
  • It's All My Fault: John still blames himself for losing friends to the Inner Circle.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: Lauren and Caitlin are both a bit angry at Reed for keeping his powers a secret.
  • Married to the Job: Jace Turner just can't stay away from investigating the Mutant Underground, going to the local police for assistance. The captain later tells him to leave, having checked his questionable background.
  • Power Incontinence: Reed loses control of his emerging powers and rots the steering wheel of his car, then the gearshift, causing a crash when he can't brake in time.
  • Revenge: Marcos is pissed after being wounded by Reeva and promptly plans to strike back once he returns to the Underground headquarters.
  • Spotting the Thread: At the accident scene, Turner is the only one to notice the escape route Lauren and Reed took and even gets a glimpse on them when they hotwire a car before driving away.
  • Strange Secret Entrance: The entrance to the Morlocks base in the sewers is hidden behind a transparent wall.

"I-I don't want to rest. I want to hit them back."
