Go To

Original air date: 10/28/2023

The Ghost Chaser Chens are hosting a booth at the ghost hunting convention, Necro Comic-Con, and plan to reveal their captured Frightmares to the other attendees. Molly and Ollie try to stop them.

Tropes:

  • Berserk Button: Esther gets really ticked off after Ernie made fun of her and Ruben for having no line at their stand.
  • Bottle Episode: The entire episode takes place at the convention.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Molly and Ollie fail to retrieve the Phantom Cannister, and Ollie's parents dismiss his claim that not all ghosts are bad; however, June takes Ollie's words into consideration and swaps the canister out at the last minute to stop it from being presented, making a Heel–Face Turn in the process. Unfortunately, this leads to their parents being humiliated at the con, likely fueling their motivation to hunt ghosts even further.
  • Blunt "Yes": June gives one after Scratch asks if she's saying that she wants to experiment on him.
  • Call-Back: Scratch once again uses a bedsheet to disguise himself.
  • Captain Obvious: After seeing that Scratch snuck into the convention, Molly pointed out that Scratch is here for the free stuff.
  • Continuity Nod: This episode takes place after "Frightmares on Main Street," with the Frightmares still sealed inside the Phantom Canister, and June still oblivious as to how that's possible, given that the canister was a prototype that had failed to hold them earlier.
  • Contrived Coincidence: When Molly and Ollie start to run out of time and plans to get the Phantom Cannister, Ollie suggests he'd distract everyone wearing a chicken suit. Molly asks where would he even find one, a guy shows up wearing one. Apparently, he was meant to go to a convention for poultry guys, not poltergeists.
  • Eye Scream: This almost happens to Scratch. After June is introduced to him, she thought about poking his eye and touching his eye goop.
  • Failure Montage: Molly and Ollie's attempts to grab the canister.
  • Fingore: While Molly and Ollie try to get the canister, June accidentally places a small box on Ollie's fingers.
  • Heel–Face Turn: June learns that a good ghost (Scratch) saved Brighton from the Frightmares and subsequently joins Molly and Ollie in being friends with Scratch (particularly for his marshmallow-like physique).
  • Musical Nod: The music playing in the background as Ollie explains to Molly why it’s hard to tell his parents that not all ghosts are evil is the same tune that plays when he confesses his guilt about his ghost hunting past in “The Unhaunting of Brighton Video”.
  • Not Helping Your Case: When Ollie tries to convince his family that not all ghosts are evil...
Ollie: What if, hypothetically, not all ghosts are bad?
    Ruben: (in disbelief) Huh?
Ollie: Maybe some give squishy marshmallow hugs and are actually kind, compassionate creatures.
Scratch: (wrestling with a security guard, right behind Ollie) I'll toodle-boot you Fudderson!
Ollie: Most of the time...85% to 90%.
    Scratch: I swear I will!
    Ollie: Rounding up.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: When June is formally introduced to Scratch, the first thing she does is stretch out his ectoplasmic body, claiming that his body is marshmallow-like and she tries to poke his eye to try to touch his eye goop.
  • Only Sane Woman: With Scratch out in the Con looking for free swag and Ollie trying to come up with an elaborate plan to get the Phantom Cannister, Molly ends up with this role and eventually convinces the latter to just convince his parents that not all ghosts are bad.
  • Operation: [Blank]: Ollie drafts up different plans to swipe the Phantom Cannister away from the Chens' booth, including obscure manuever titles such as "Lonely Armadillo". Also, his plan to steal the cannister is called "Operation: Can-Can".
  • So Proud of You: Ruben dismisses Ollie's argument about ghosts being good, but not before hugging him and praising him for becoming an "empathetic young man."
  • Stating the Simple Solution: After many failed attempts at getting the canister, Molly tells Ollie to talk to his parents about how ghosts can be good.
  • Steamrolled Smart Guy: Scratch, despite being an actual ghost, loses at ghost trivia to Ernie Fudderson because the answers to the questions are all wrong, mainly because all the answers to the trivia are just stereotypes of ghosts overall (ex. Scratch answers "Ghost World", which is where all of the ghosts actually live and hang out, but the answer to the trivia is "Haunted Dungeons", which is a ghost stereotype mostly involved with horror films or any haunted place in general).
  • Your Costume Needs Work: Scratch removes his sheet and reveals himself as a ghost in front of the whole convention, only for them to think his appearance is just another costume under the previous one.
