  • Big Damn Heroes: Scratch unknowingly saves another ghost from being banished to the flow of failed phantoms.
  • Calvinball: Mega City seems to be an unholy amalgamation of Monopoly and Life, with a bit of Jenga thrown in. Scratch is completely confused the first time he plays it.
  • Competition Freak: This was the reason Sharon hid the Mega City game in the first place, because every member of the family gets too into it. After she beats Scratch and indulges into some Unsportsmanlike Gloating, the others decide to hide it again, this time burying it in the backyard.
  • Lazy Bum: Scratch, as usual, is horrified when he's not only assigned chores with the rest of the family (hoping that becoming a McGee meant perks like "unconditional love and free food", not upkeep), but the worst chore of them all: cleaning the downstairs bathroom. From then on, he drives the plot with his determined effort to avoid work, cajoling everyone into playing Mega City so he can take a break or gamble away his household duties.
  • Potty Emergency: Just as Scratch has finally finished cleaning the downstairs bathroom, Darryl runs in saying that "that chili isn't sitting too well!" All Scratch can do is shout to the heavens in anguish.
  • Sore Loser: Subverted. Sharon has a reputation as the worst Mega City player in the family, and she's shown to resent the game — because she's a former junior national champion, and is annoyed by how she's taunted for secretly letting the others win out of fairness. When actual stakes are on the line, she effortlessly trounces Scratch (even with his using ghost powers to cheat), and is revealed to be a sore winner at heart. Seeing this is enough to make her family bury the game in the backyard.
  • Wager Slave: Scratch tricks Pete, Molly, and Darryl into playing a game of Mega City, with the condition that the losers have to do the winner's chore. He wins by cheating, but Sharon gets him back by managing to beat him in a one-on-one match and leaving Scratch on "downstairs bathroom" duty for the rest of his afterlife.
