Go To

Original air date: 3/8/2002 (produced in 2001)

Episode number: 9b

Timmy's parents hear about a shoplifter on the news; since Timmy has suddenly gained nice things seemingly out of nowhere, they suspect that he might be the shoplifter. Now, Timmy (who didn't shoplift) has to clear his name. Meanwhile, Jorgen Von Strangle conducts a fairy inspection to see if Cosmo and Wanda are fit to continue being Timmy’s godparents.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Armour-Piercing Question: When Timmy's parents confront him over all his newly-acquired items, Timmy gives them his usual excuse to avoid revealing his godparents (he bought them over the Internet). His dad remains suspicious and asks, "And where did you get the Internet?", to which Timmy has no reply.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: When Cosmo poses as a camera, Wanda asks him to keep an eye on Timmy. Cosmo ends up getting distracted by a sale on lard. However, this turns out to be a good thing, as he films Francis stealing a tub of lard, and Timmy shows Cosmo's security tape to everyone to prove to them that Francis is the real shoplifter.
  • Bland-Name Product: The "Wall 2 Wall Mart" from which Timmy's parents fear he's been shoplifting.
  • Blatant Lies: When Timmy's parents fear he's shoplifted all the stuff he's wished for, his dad calls him out on the Internet lie:
Dad: Where did you get all these nice things?
    Timmy: Uhh...Internet?
Dad: And where did you get the Internet?
    Timmy: Uhh...uhh...
    [shortly afterwards]
Timmy: If you don't believe me, we can use my new lie detector!
Dad: Say! Where'd you get the nice lie detector, son?
    Timmy: Uhh... Internet?
    Detector: [BUZZ!!]
  • Boring Vacation Slideshow: While Timmy sets out to find the real shoplifter and prove his innocence, Cosmo and Wanda try to stall Jorgen by showing them their vacation slides. Jorgen is not amused.
Cosmo: And this is us on vacation in Egypt.
    Wanda: Cosmo had food poisoning.
Cosmo: And this is us in Paris.
    Wanda: Food poisoning.
Cosmo: Fancy food poisoning! And this is me getting food poisoning in Kidneyland.
  • By the Lights of Their Eyes: When Timmy is brought to the lineup.
  • Caught on Tape: Cosmo turned into a camera that recorded Francis stealing from the Wall 2 Wall Mart, which Timmy uses to clear his name.
  • Clear My Name: The A-plot of the episode has Timmy trying to prove he isn't a shoplifter.
  • Coincidental Broadcast: The news report detailing what got stolen comes on right when Timmy is walking by with said items.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Played more seriously than usual. Timmy never tries to hide the things he wishes for. Later, he tries to plug himself into a lie detector to prove his innocence, but it falls apart when his parents ask him where he got the lie detector.
  • Guilty Until Someone Else Is Guilty: Nobody believes Timmy's pleas of innocence even as it becomes increasingly obvious that Francis is the true shoplifter. They only realize this when Timmy shows them video-proof of Francis shoplifting, while playing the tape on a stolen TV, VCR and power source that Francis was also shoplifting.
  • Hesitation Equals Dishonesty: Timmy's parents become convinced he's stealing when he can't immediately answer their questions.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: After Timmy figures out that Francis is the actual culprit, he proves it to the police by pulling a stolen TV, VCR and power source out of Francis' pants and using them to show a security tape of Francis stealing a tub of lard.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: As soon as Chester and AJ assure Timmy that they have his back, they run off when the police catch up.
  • Implausible Deniability: When Francis is busted for shoplifting, he tries to use Timmy's usual excuse of "I got that stuff from the Internet". Note that he had been caught, on tape, shoplifting just moments ago.
  • The Inspector Is Coming: The B plot of the episode. It ties into the A plot, as one of the criteria for passing the inspection is "Number of Wishes", and Timmy wishing for a huge number of items to try and fulfil that criteria is what raises his parents' suspicions.
  • Lie Detector: Timmy's parents suspect him of stealing, so he whips out a lie detector to prove his innocence. Unfortunately, it ends up working against him when Mr. Turner asked where he got the detector and Timmy, out of habit, says "Internet".
  • Mama Bear: Wanda stands up to Jorgen in order to rescue Timmy.
  • Mistaken for Thief: Timmy gets accused of shoplifting when he can't explain where he got everything he wished for.
  • Mugshot Montage: The title card uses mugshots.
  • Papa Wolf: While less badass than Wanda, Cosmo still follows her to rescue Timmy.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Chester and AJ disguise themselves as Timmy. The police are fooled, even though they should already know what Timmy looks like.
  • Police Are Useless: The police chase Timmy throughout the episode while completely missing Francis, the real thief.
  • Police Lineup: Timmy is put in a police lineup with Chester, AJ, and Francis.
  • Shake Someone, Objects Fall: When the police frisk Francis after he is Caught on Tape shoplifting, proving Timmy right.
Francis: Uh... I got that stuff off the internet?
Cop: [about to handcuff Francis] Ri-i-i-i-ight!
  • Tank Goodness: One of the things Timmy wishes for to help Cosmo and Wanda pass their inspection is a fully functional tank. His parents proceed to borrow it, and one of the first things they do is crush Mr. Dinkelberg's car.
  • Through His Stomach: The beginning scene parodies this with Mr. Turner "falling in love all over again" when his wife makes her new dish: cold cereal and milk.
  • Trouser Space: Francis keeps everything he steals in his pants, including a VCR, a television, a generator, and a tub of lard about the size of his torso.
  • Twinkle Smile: Chester uses his braces to cause one so bright, it destroys a wall in the police station.
  • Wrongful Accusation Insurance: Timmy gets no consequences for escaping a police station.
