Tootie narrowly avoids certain doom when she decides to go to New York City unsupervised.
This episode contains examples of:
- Anger Born of Worry: After discovering Tootie at the end, Jo, Natalie, and Mrs. Garrett scold her for recklessly going off on her own.
- Badass Bystander: Bernice the waitress after witnessing Kristy invite Tootie to her apartment for the weekend goes out of her way to warn Tootie against going and explain what Mike has planned for her. All while managing to do so in a brief window of opportunity without Kristy or Mike noticing.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Downplayed with Kristy. While she does try to lure Tootie into Mike's grasp, it's only after Kristy unprompted does a nice deed for Tootie and they form a genuine bond does Mike decide he want's Tootie for his prostitute ring. Kristy even tries twice to dissuade Mike from going after her, but he won't listen.
- Bittersweet Ending: Very,very bitter. Though Mrs. Garrett and the other girls arrive in time to save Tootie, Kristy is left behind with apparently no hope to get out of her current situation, and Tootie can only glare at Kristy sorrowfully but mad.
- Blatant Lies: Two on Kristy's part: One where she tells Tootie that she can use the phone at her apartment to call Mrs.Garrett and at the end, when she promises nothing will happen to Tootie if she changes her mind about not going. Although at that point, Kristy's concern was avoiding Mike's wrath
- Broken Pedestal: Upon discovering what Kristy was trying to do, Tootie completely turns on her. Kristy tries to keep the charade going, but Tootie will have none of it.
- Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Bernice tries to tell Tootie the truth about Kristy, she initially refuses to believe it as she and Mike had been so kind to her. But then Bernice explains to her what will happen if she goes to the apartment, namely that she will most likely be given a roofie and wake up three days later. Tootie is shocked, but then finally realizes to her horror that Bernice is telling the truth when she sees Mike make a suspicious call, then take cash from another prostitute.
- Innocent Means Naïve: Tootie's innocence and overall lack of experience in the real world compared to the other girls makes her a perfect target for Mike. Whereas Jo could easily see what Mike is all about, Tootie is just as easily tricked into thinking that Mike is just Kristy's friend, despite his obvious creepiness.
- Jerkass: Mike, Kristy's pimp who strongarms her into trying to recruit Tootie. When she fails, he snaps at both Kristy and Tootie and the episode ends with the implication he will punish Kristy later.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Bernice, the waitress. She's somewhat snarky and doesn't have much pity when Tootie can't find her wallet to pay for service, but upon hearing Kristy invite Tootie to her apartment, she looks alarmed and goes out of her way to warn Tootie against going.
- Nice Girl: Tootie is very sweet to Kristy when they first meet. Deconstructed, as she's so nice and trusting this nearly lets Mike and Kristy trick her into coming to Kristy's apartment with them.
- Super Gullible: While Tootie is initially hesitant to accept Kristy's offer to spend the weekend with her, Kristy manages to tempt her with promises of meeting agents and producers. At this point stars light up in Tootie's eyes and she happily accepts. Thankfully, Bernice was in earshot of this and manages to talk her out of it.
