Chapter 15: Lunchtime for Heroes

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Anger Born of Worry: Downplayed. Mirabel isn't angry at Hiccup, but when she learns that Hiccup stayed up all night without eating or resting to look for her, she drags him back to the forge and tells him to go to bed. She even has Toothless stand guard and orders him to not let Hiccup out (which the dragon takes seriously). Hiccup clearly knows that this is the case, but but still jokes about how his friends imprisoned him.
It was a weird feeling, being grounded by your friends.
  • Internal Reveal: Mirabel tells Hiccup everything that led up to Casita collapsing. Ironically, this trope applies doubly-so, since one would have to have seen Encanto considering the fic makes no mention of any of it.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Having been so quick to act during the crisis two chapters ago, Hiccup ends up becoming a town hero, being showered with praise and thanks for it.
The boy truly didn't think of it as saving the day, he was simply trying to help out. He shook hands, was hugged, and even offered a baby to kiss. He politely declined.
  • The Magnificent: With Hiccup's heroics during the crisis, people have taken to calling him "Hiccup the Hero". Since this trope is important to Berk's culture, not to mention having already been called "Hiccup the Useless" as an insult, this really gets to him.
  • Mythology Gag: Hiccup quotes How to Train Your Dragon with a line usually directed at him.
Hiccup: It’s clear to me that what they needed, what the Encanto needed was more of- [gestures to all of her] This!
