The Hallway Fight we've all been waiting for.

The third episode of The Defenders (2017).

The episode opens in a flashback, set shortly after the events of Daredevil season 2. Alexandra is seen eating at a Turkish restaurant. She praises the restauranteur, saying that his wife's ethnic dish is better than they made it in Constantinople, and he corrects her that it's known as Istanbul, now. Partway through her meal, the mysterious White Hat, real name Sowande, enters the restaurant and informs Alexandra that they have acquired the Black Sky.

In a ceremonial room, Alexandra and her subordinates perform a ritual to resurrect Elektra. She is dressed in red robes, and then placed in a coffin. A mysterious black liquid is then poured into the coffin through an opening near the head. Some time later, there is movement within the coffin and Elektra wakes up, disoriented and in a near-feral state. Alexandra quickly tells Elektra that her fear will pass, as will the pain.

Acting like a reassuring mother, Alexandra gets Elektra up to speed, helping her regain the memory to speak. After some time, it's time for Elektra to be retrained in fighting. She initially thinks of using her old sais, but instead takes a double-bladed katana. With Alexandra watching, Elektra is put through basic sparring lessons. Her trainers start her with basic non-fatal weapons in one-on-one matches. Then she is taught how to fight multiple opponents. Then comes the real test: moving from non-fatal batons to knifeplay. Elektra demonstrates she's ready, as unarmed, she manages to in total darkness grab twin katanas and kill ten opponents in a matter of seconds. As a reward for passing the test, Alexandra gives Elektra a new armored suit for fighting.

In the present day, Alexandra interrogates Stick about the location of Danny Rand. But Stick is defiant to give any information on his whereabouts. She takes pride in taunting Stick by having Elektra hold a blade to his throat. Stick gets an opening and proceeds to free himself by cutting off his right hand, overpowering Alexandra and Elektra, and fleeing through a vent in the wall.

Picking up from the last scene of the previous episode, Matt sits down with Jessica and introduces himself, revealing that he was sent by Foggy. He asks some basic questions, but Jessica refuses to answer. Matt comments that he is aware of Jessica's past activities, and what she did to Kilgrave, so it's in her best interests to be open and forthcoming with him, but she insists nothing happened, and Matt allows her to leave. As Jessica leaves, she calls Malcolm to ask what he told the detective that questioned him, unaware that Matt is listening to her. Aware of what Foggy has asked of him, Matt decides to follow her.

At Claire's apartment, Luke puts an ice pack to his face to dull the pain from where Danny punched him. He uneasily tells Claire about watching Cole get arrested. Claire's curiosity is piqued when Luke reveals he got punched by some skinny white kid with a glowing fist, and immediately picks up the phone, telling Luke "there's someone that you need to meet." The next morning, Claire drags Luke down to the Chikara Dojo and properly introduces him to Danny and Colleen. Luke is incredulous at most of what Danny reveals, especially the Hand's ability to resurrect the dead. They make some small praises of what the other has done, but they come to blows when it comes to what Danny had been doing, roughing up Cole. Luke argues that Danny was too hard on Cole, who is a bottom-feeder that probably doesn't know what his bosses' ulterior motives are, and Danny can be doing much more going by using his privilege and status as a billionaire to directly confront the Hand's leadership head-on. Danny thinks there's no reasonable excuse for Cole's actions. The conversation ends with Luke storming out.

Jessica interviews John Raymond's wife and daughter to get some answers, with no success. While not going into specifics, she reveals that she thinks John was being targeted. As she's leaving, Jessica gets the uneasy feeling that she's being followed. Indeed, Matt is shadowing her, hanging a few steps back. In an attempt to lose him, Jessica ducks into a storefront, taking advantage of the crowd of pedestrians, and causing Matt to lose track of her. He continues walking, only to quickly realize that Jessica has managed to turn the tables so that she is following him instead. Needing to make a quick getaway, he cuts through an alleyway and parkours up to a fire escape and disappears, not noticing as Jessica takes several pictures of him. Catching her breath, Jessica gets a phone call from Duncan and Dotter Designs regarding an appointment she made for that afternoon to talk to John's colleagues.

Luke visits Cole at the jail, and asks him if he knows anything about the Hand beyond the muscle work he's been doing. But Cole is reluctant to talk, saying the Hand have eyes and ears everywhere and will kill him for speaking to Luke. He asks Luke to hand his mother some scratch lottery tickets, tearfully apologizing as the guards return him to his cell.

Danny and Colleen pay a visit to Rand Enterprises and stop by a property clerk. Danny thinks he can find the leaders of the Hand by tracing their money. A quick search on the computer leads Danny to learn that the Hand laundered a lot of money through Rand to a single location: Midland Circle Financial in Hell's Kitchen. Danny deduces that this must be where the Hand's base of operations are decided. Contemplating his options, he decides that he will need to pay them a visit, and fly solo.

At Duncan and Dotter Designs, Jessica talks to one of John Raymond's colleagues, posing as a goofy blog owner looking for communal workspace. After some schmoozing, she gets the colleague to reveal that John recently designed a skyscraper in Hell's Kitchen: Midland Circle. Satisfied, Jessica waits for the colleague to leave before taking a few pictures with her phone to get the address.

Up in Harlem, Luke visits Cole's mother and gives her the lottery tickets. They reminisce a bit about Cole and his childhood. Apparently, Cole has a box of stuff on a shelf that's too high for Dolores to reach, and Luke realizes this might be where Cole is keeping his ill-gotten gains. Sure enough, when Luke looks at the box, he finds a roll of cash. Wrapped around the wad of cash is a valet stub...for Midland Circle Financial. As Luke contemplates checking out this lead, Dolores receives a phone call with devastating news: Cole has been murdered in jail on orders from the Hand for snitching.

At the dojo, Colleen is exercising as she waits for Danny to return. She's interrupted by a noise and opens the entry door, just as Stick collapses in the vestibule, asking where Danny is.

In the meanwhile, the paths of our four heroes all merge on Midland Circle, a high-rise skyscraper at 44th Street and 11th Avenue, the former site of what used to be Elena Cardenas' tenement until Wilson Fisk had her killed. Danny arrives first in a hired Rand company car, and dressed in a suit and tie to give the appearance that he's here on official business. He talks his way past the receptionist, saying he wants to meet the CEOs, and they're expecting him. Danny is taken upstairs, and escorted by a secretary down a very stark white hallway to a board room. He announces to the board members that he is planning to expose them and all of the criminal activities the Hand has been involved in. His meeting is interrupted by the arrival of Alexandra, who appreciates his candor and isn't fazed by his arrival, and asks him to continue.

Jessica is the second to arrive...with Matt right behind her. Knowing exactly what is going on at this address, Matt drags Jessica aside and warns her to leave the building immediately. Jessica gets exasperated at Matt's persistent tailing her and demands answers about what he's up to, and why he's following her around. When she lets slip that she's taken pictures of him parkouring, Matt abruptly smashes Jessica's camera.

Upstairs, Danny continues his monologue to Alexandra and the board, explaining how he plans to take them all down. Alexandra is nonplussed when Danny reveals he is the Iron Fist, and cautions Alexandra that she'll soon lose everything, just like he did. The meeting then abruptly turns hostile, as the secretary that escorted Danny in abruptly pulls a gun on him. Danny disarms her and takes her hostage. In the struggle, her gun goes off, which is heard by Matt down in the lobby. As this is exactly the type of situation he was trying to avoid, Matt steals Jessica's scarf and ties it around his head to use as a mask, then makes his way towards the stairwell.

Alexandra tells Danny that she's crossed paths with previous Iron Fists, but unlike his predecessors, she's not going to kill him, but capture him. Furthermore, there's no use trying to use the secretary as a hostage, for the "board members" are more hired henchmen who are armed with collapsible batons. Realizing he is woefully outnumbered, Danny throws the secretary aside and engages Alexandra's henchmen. He manages to disarm and knock down most of the first wave of henchmen, only for a second team to show up and try shooting him with tranquilizer pistols. He is able to disarm most of the second team, before the fighters from the first team manage to get a second wind and dogpile on him, pinning him down.

As Danny is being overwhelmed, he frantically tries to summon the Iron Fist to break free. He gets a reprieve when Luke abruptly kicks down the doors. The surprise gives Danny an opening to toss one of the henchmen towards Luke, and free himself from the other henchmen who are distracted by the new arrival. Luke then shields Danny and they take down two more henchmen who enter firing automatic rifles at them, before they find themselves surrounded by teams of armed henchmen from both entrance points into the room.

Matt, meanwhile, runs up the stairs, emerging on the top floor at the same moment that Jessica emerges from the elevator. As they walk down the hall, Luke and Danny's fight bursts through the wall in front of them. Luke and Jessica are surprised to see each other for the first time since she shot him, but there's no time to exchange pleasantries as she tries to ask Luke about Danny, and he in turn tries to ask her about Matt. Before they head to the elevator, Matt senses something very unusual coming towards them. Moments later, Elektra comes around the corner, sporting her katanas. Jessica and Danny pale as they recognize Elektra from their prior encounters with her. They begin retreating towards the elevator, only to find their way being blocked by more henchmen coming up the stairwell. Luke, Jessica and Danny engage the henchmen, while Matt engages Elektra in a one on one fight. After an intense fight, Elektra manages to stun Matt with a timed kick that tosses him into a bookcase. As he lays there, prone, Matt recognizes Elektra's heartbeat and says her name, confused. Elektra pauses, thinking Matt's voice sounds familiar. As she picks up one of her katanas and prepares to impale Matt with it, Danny suddenly appears and uses the Iron Fist to shatter the blade and throw her backwards through a window. He then helps Matt to his feet, and the two hurry to join Luke and Jessica before escaping down the elevator.

  • 555: Subverted. Cole gives his mother's address as 555 Edgecombe Street.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Inverted with Elektra, who comes back from the dead with no memory. Alexandra tells her language will return, along with her instincts, but not her memories.
  • An Arm and a Leg:
    • A couple of the ninjas that Elektra kills as part of the final test visibly lose limbs.
    • Stick cuts off his right hand to escape Alexandra and Elektra.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Lampshaded when even Danny gives a wry smile when telling Luke about the dragon thing, and Claire and Colleen admit it's pretty far out.
  • Artistic License – Physics: Pretty mild example, but Danny grabs a tranq dart out of the wall and jabs a mook with it, the implication being that he knocked him out with it. At worst, he gave the guy an unpleasant poke, since tranq darts blow their load when they hit something.
  • As You Know: Jessica does a "Yeah, yeah, I know the drill" to cut Matt off when he goes through the usual spiel lawyers do of reminding their clients that even if they're not being charged, they need to still make themselves available for police questioning if necessary so they shouldn't make any travel plans in the immediate future.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: The four heroes come together for the epic brawl in the hallway with scores of mooks.
  • Badass Boast: Subverted as Danny tries to give on to the board on how he will destroy them all. However, not only is Alexandra not impressed but reveals the entire "board" are trained killers ready for Danny.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: All of the board members of Midland Circle are trained Hand warriors dressed in expensive and elegant suits.
  • Battle Discretion Shot:
    • The final test of Elektra's training. With Alexandra watching, a group of ten ninjas surround an unarmed and defenseless Elektra, and unsheath their katanas. The room then suddenly goes dark, we hear the sounds of fighting as Alexandra listens impassively. A few seconds later, the lights come back on, and all ten ninjas are lying dead around Elektra's feet as she drops two katanas she managed to grab from one of them.
    • When Luke and Danny first team up during the Midland Circle fight, Luke forms a Human Shield for Danny only to find themselves surrounded on both sides by armed gunmen. We then cut to Matt and Jessica who witness the aftermath when one of these gunmen is thrown through the wall into the corridor outside, our heroes presumably having dealt with the others.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Luke busts down the door to the conference room just as Danny is overwhelmed by Alexandra's mooks. Later, Danny saves Matt from Elektra, by iron fisting her Sword.
  • Boring, but Practical: When Matt hears guns firing, he makes a makeshift mask out of Jessica's scarf and Le Parkours his way up the staircase. Jessica just takes the elevator and makes it there at the same time as he does.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Danny and Luke argue about the ethics of leaving Cole to the police. Danny argues that Cole was assisting the Hand and that good intentions don't excuse anything, while Luke says that he was providing for his family and was desperate, and that bottom-level grunts like Cole are less accountable for their actions when they may not even know who exactly is pulling strings.
  • Bulletproof Human Shield: For once fully justified. Danny takes advantage of Luke's invulnerability to protect himself from two guys with automatic rifles.
  • Came Back Wrong: Combined with Came Back Strong for Elektra, as she is more powerful than ever after her resurrection, but awakes in an almost feral state, having to learn how to speak again and not remembering anything from her old life. When she approaches the heroes towards the end of the hallway fight, she doesn't even seem to register to Matt's heightened as human anymore (although he does eventually recognize her heartbeat after she's overpowered him).
Matt Murdock: Wait. There's someone else coming. Something else.
[Elektra rounds the corner and brandishes her katanas]
    Matt Murdock: What is it?
    Jessica Jones: Oh shit.
    Luke Cage: Oh, who's that?
Jessica Jones: Bad news. We gotta go.
  • Cheap Costume: Matt steals Jessica's scarf to improvise a mask. She's not impressed.
Jessica Jones: You look like an asshole.
    Matt Murdock: It's your scarf.
  • Cosmopolitan Council: The board of Midland Circle is composed of men and women of different ethnicities and nationalities.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive/Evil, Inc.: Midland Circle and its shell companies are the front for the criminal endeavours of the Hand: laundering, drugs, human trafficking.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Matt mentions having read about the whole Kilgrave ordeal when Foggy briefed him on Jessica, as a way of telling Jessica that he can only help her if she's fully open with him about what happened.
    • Much like when he followed Karen back to her apartment when she went to retrieve the Union Allied flashdrive, Matt deliberately doesn't call Jessica out on a lie so that he can follow her to an actual lead.
    • Matt's tailing Jessica is very reminiscent of him following James Wesley from Nelson & Murdock back to Wilson Fisk's convoy of Cadillacs.
    • Matt tries to warn Jessica to leave Midland Circle, remembering how he and Elektra were here once before and got hit by ninjas.
    • Danny's entrance to Midland Circle is very akin to his first attempt to enter Rand Enterprises. This time, though, he's dressed appropriately and more confident.
      Receptionist: Name, please.
Danny Rand: Daniel Rand of Rand Enterprises.
      Receptionist: Here to see?
Danny Rand: The CEOs of Midland Circle Financial.
      Receptionist: Are they expecting you?
Danny Rand: [chuckles softly] Not like this...
  • Contrived Coincidence: Danny, Luke and Jessica all individually discover around the same time that Midland Circle is where they should go, and Matt is just following Jessica. They also all happen to pick the same moment to go there and investigate further, thus leading to their first meeting. Somewhat justified, since Alexandra's illness is forcing them to proceed with less discretion than they typically use.
  • Cutting the Knot: When Jessica tells Matt she has pictures of him doing acrobatics, he just grabs the camera and smashes it.
  • Death of Personality: Alexandra tells Stick that Elektra is dead and all that remains in her "vessel" is the Black Sky.
  • Foreshadowing: Alexandra compliments Elektra's choice of weapons. "Wakizashi, good choice. They won't know what's coming until it's too late." Elektra later kills Alexandra with her wakizashi.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Matt somehow fails to notice Jessica following him into the alleyway and fails to hear the click of her camera's shutter despite later in the same episode hearing a silenced gun being fired in the penthouse from the lobby of a building.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: When Danny grabs the woman with the silenced pistol as a hostage, the other board members produce extendable batons and Alexandra informs him they'll have no problem going through her to get to him, so Danny just throws her into the nearest mook so he can have his hands free for fighting.
  • Hallway Fight: The classic Netflix Marvel hallway fight comes in. It starts in the boardroom as Danny confronts Alexandra and her henchmen. After taking out a dozen fighters armed with tranquilizer guns, he is eventually overpowered by a second wave. He is about to be captured when Luke suddenly bursts down the doors and they fight their way out. They burst out into the nearby hallway just as Matt and Jessica arrive. After an awkward exchange as Luke and Jessica recognize each other, they find themselves pinned down with Elektra approaching on one side and a bunch of goons coming from the elevator side. Luke, Jessica and Danny handle the henchmen while Matt finds himself dealing with Elektra one-on-one.
  • Hollywood Silencer: Averted, the suppressors are so that people on the other floors at Midland Circle can't hear the shots, but Matt still picks up the sound from the lobby thanks to his heightened senses. It is, however, the standard "fwip" noise associated with this trope. Of course, given that they're firing tranq darts rather than bullets, the silencers are actually overkill.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: Early in the episode, Luke calls Danny (who spent the bulk of his life enduring borderline abusive Training from Hell and mainly just knows how to fight) on beating up street level operatives when he should be doing more with his vast resources, calling him "a privileged white kid". When Luke beats up some street level operatives later on and realizes the Hand has to be taken down the old fashioned way, Danny playfully calls him out on it.
Danny Rand: So punching's okay now?
    Luke Cage: It's complicated...
  • Hypocritical Humor: Luke calls the Hand and their ability to bring back the dead insane and hard to believe. This, Danny points out, coming from a man who's bulletproof.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Luke believes that Danny is just "a privileged white kid" who doesn't understand the real world. Anyone who's familiar with Danny's backstory and his life in K'un Lun (including being abused by the teachers, facing racism from the other students, and having to face off against Davos in a duel to the death for the title of the Iron Fist) knows that the bulk of his upbringing was far from privileged.
  • Istanbul (Not Constantinople): Discussed Trope when Alexandra tells a Turkish restauranteur that his wife's ethnic dish is better than they made it in Constantinople. The man corrects her that it's known as Istanbul, now. It's another hint that like other Hand leaders she is Older Than They Look.
  • Killed Offscreen: Cole is murdered in jail as punishment for speaking to Luke.
  • Life-or-Limb Decision: Stick cuts off his own right hand to free himself from Alexandra and Elektra.
  • My Name Is Inigo Montoya: Played with. Danny delivers a speech to the board of Midland Circle Financial, only to be interrupted by Alexandra.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Elektra now sports her comics costume. When offered weapons, she also briefly glances at her old sais but instead settles for katanas.
    • Luke Cage and Danny Rand being the first two Defenders to meet each other properly in Colleen's dojo is a reference to their team-up in the comics.
  • Naïve Newcomer: Luke accuses Danny of simply targeting the lower members of the Hand when he can take the fight to them in other ways, saying that Danny is just fighting for a personal vendetta. While Danny does admit that Luke does have a point, in the rest of the scene, it's clear that Luke is being incredibly naive about how ruthless the Hand is and how much influence they have, something which Claire can attest to. It's not until Cole is murdered that Luke realizes that the Hand has to be brought down the old fashioned way, which Danny calls him out on.
Danny Rand: So punching is okay now?
    Luke Cage: It's complicated.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Luke gets two of these. The first occurs when he inspires Danny to take the fight to the leaders of the Hand, which nearly gets him captured, although Luke shows up just in time. The second is visiting Cole in prison, which gets Cole killed.
  • The Nose Knows: It's implied that Matt is tracking Jessica by her scent, as he follows her trail perfectly. Presumably he recognises Elektra this way as well.
  • The Nothing After Death: Even the Black Sky and Alexandra are terrified of this, inspiring the latter's quest for immortality.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Matt, when he realizes Jessica is going into Midland Circle and is up against the Hand.
    • Danny's face when the "board members" suddenly produce guns and batons, revealing that they are all actually henchmen, and he's greatly outnumbered without Colleen as backup.
    • Jessica and Danny when they see Elektra in Midland Circle coming around a corner.
      Matt Murdock: What is it?
      Jessica Jones: Oh shit...
      Luke Cage: Oh, who's that?
Jessica Jones: Bad news. We gotta go. [turns around to the elevator and sees another squad of henchmen coming around the corner to block them off from that direction] Uh-oh!
  • Once More, with Clarity: We finally get a good look at the circumstances surrounding Elektra and that sarcophagus.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Cole is killed in prison for talking to Luke. Dolores lets out a gutwrenching wail at the news of his death, given that he was the last of her three children.
  • Playing the Victim Card: Played With in that Luke does this on behalf of Cole. Luke criticizes Danny for leaving Cole to the police, telling him that the guy did what he had to do because of his family's financial issues, something that a rich person like Danny can't understand. In response, Danny points out that regardless of Cole's reasons, the Hand is an incredibly dangerous group that preys on and kills innocent people. It's only after Cole is murdered and he understands the full threat of the organization that Luke realizes brute force is necessary.
  • Prolonged Prologue: The pre-credits sequence, documenting Elektra's trip through the resurrection process, lasts a full twelve minutes.
  • Punched Across the Room: Luke and Jessica's super-strength, Danny's Iron Fist, and now Elektra's revived strength all give them the ability to do this. For the regular Hand henchmen, this usually means being knocked out. All our heroes save for Matt are Made of Iron and can withstand it. This is all par for the course for a superhero flick; the only one that really stands out is when Danny sends Elektra flying by punching, and shattering, her sword, highlighting the Iron Fist's semi-telekinesis.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: When a mindless Elektra attacks her after waking up, Alexandra easily subdues her.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Alexandra slips up and refers to Istanbul as Constantinople.
Restaurateur: I think you mean "Istanbul"; "Constantinople", this is its ancient name.
    Alexandra: Of course.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Danny marches into the boardroom of Midland Circle and announces that he intends to take them down. Unfortunately it turns out they're more than ready for him, and if the other Defenders hadn't turned up Danny would likely have been taken alive by the Hand.
  • Retcon: Similarly to how Gao was revealed in Iron Fist (2017) to be a member of the Hand, it is revealed that the Chaste serve K'un Lun and the Order of the Crane Mother.
  • Running Gag: In continuation from Iron Fist (2017), Luke's reaction to hearing the absurdity of Danny's backstory.
  • Seen It All: At first Claire is concerned to learn that Luke ran into someone capable of hurting him, given that the only person capable of doing that until now, Diamondback, is locked up. Then he says it was someone with a glowing hand. Some skinny white kid. All she can do is roll her eyes and call Colleen.
  • Shout-Out: Oddly enough, a possible one to Arrow as Matt senses Elektra's arrival: "There's someone else coming. Something else."
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: Alexandra decides Elektra, after winning a fight, is ready. Up to Eleven: it's a troop of Hand armed with real weapons. Beyond the Impossible: She turns the lights off. Elektra wins.
  • Standard Female Grab Area: Matt grabs Jessica by the arm to drag her aside as she enters Midland Circle.
    Jessica Jones: MURDOCK! What-
Matt Murdock: We need to leave, now.
Jessica Jones: If you grab me like that again, I'll punch you so hard you'll see!
  • Tempting Fate: When Danny asks to see the executive board of Midland Circle Financial, the receptionist asks if they're expecting him. Danny just smirks and says, "Not like this." Turns out they are expecting him as the Iron Fist, and are more than ready for him.
  • That Woman Is Dead: Elektra as she was is no more, now she is only the Black Sky.
  • This Cannot Be!: Matt has such a reaction when he recognizes Elektra.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: Danny insists to Colleen that he needs to go to Midland Circle alone, for the sake of appearances.
  • Too Kinky to Torture:
    • Stick is disappointed that Alexandra won't torture him for information on Danny Rand's whereabouts.
Stick: A shame. I grew to like that part.
    • Moments later, when Alexandra slaps him across the face, Stick laughs and says, "Now that's the Alexandra I know."
  • Training Montage: Elektra from using her twin swords to fight a Giant Mook with a staff, to fighting more and more opponents until her Deadly Graduation where she has to defeat a roomful of katana-wielding ninjas in the dark while unarmed. When the lights come back on, she's holding a pair of bloody katanas and all the ninjas are dead.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Luke is not too happy with Danny going after the Hand through roughing up guys like Cole who are just trying to feed their families. This gives Danny the idea that he needs to bring the fight to them by going to Midland Circle. By the end of the episode, however, he comes to realize Danny wasn't entirely wrong either.
  • Women Are Wiser: Claire and Colleen try to get Luke and Danny to get past their Testosterone Poisoning.
  • Working the Same Case:
    • We see Matt, Luke, Danny, and Jessica all learning about Midland Circle at the exact same time.
      • Luke learns it from looking at a box of Cole's stuff and finding a Midland Circle parking slip wrapped around a roll of cash from Cole's mysterious job.
      • Danny learns it when he and Colleen look up all the financial information about the money that the Hand was laundering through Rand.
      • Jessica learns it while talking with one of Raymond's partners at Duncan & Dotter Design and get him to reveal that Midland Circle was one of Raymond's latest designed skyscrapers.
      • Matt then learns about Midland Circle by following Jessica there.
    • Earlier, Claire realizes from Luke's words that he got into a fight with Danny, so gets them together to sought things out. Things don't work out so well, though at least they don't come to blows again.
  • Written-In Absence: Looking for information about the Hand, Danny goes to Rand Enterprises to talk to Ward about the business they did with them the previous year. Unfortunately, his secretary tells him that Ward is on a business trip.
  • You Monster!: Stick to Alexandra about the Iron Fist: "He's a weapon. You're a monster. What else?"
