Recap / The Croods: Family Tree S1E4 "What Goes Eep Must Come Down"

Go To

After a crowverine gliding mishap, Dawn loses her "grr" and is given a tip on how to regain it from Gran.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Cargo Ship: Invoked. Dawn's embarrassing secret is that she married a pumpkin when she was younger.
  • Insufferable Imbecile: Thunk doesn't seem to get the meaning behind "no berry cakes for breakfast."
  • It's a Long Story: Subverted. When Gran tells Eep and Dawn as story about a friend who lost her grrr and went on a quest to regain it, they remark that her story was surprisingly short. Then it's revealed that this was because her friend died there and she simply forgot to mention it.
  • Road Runner vs. Coyote: All of Phil's attempts at trapping the punch-monkeys all end with them snagging Phil in his own traps.
  • That's No Moon: It turns out that "Grrr Mountain" isn't really a mountain, but rather a giant animal that eats anything that gets too close. That's probably why it was so close to the farm despite the long journey to there from the valley Gran came from; it migrated like everyone else.
  • Thrill Seeker: All of the things Eep and Dawn think of as "fun" are essentially life-threatening acts of daredevilry. It's when Dawn loses her nerve — or "grrr" as Gran calls it — when she nearly dies in their morning crowverine gliding that the plot is revolved around.
  • Trojan Horse: Guy builds a fake chicken seal to smuggle Eep and Dawn out of the farm. While Ugga and Hope can easily tell that it's made of wood, they don't pay any more mind of it.
  • Noodle Incident: We never really find out what happens, but Dawn once felt a "fire in [her] belly" after eating some lava peppers.
  • Women Are Wiser: Parodied. While Phil decides to build a trap for the invasive Punch-Monkeys and Grug wants to "grind 'em" (i.e. hunt them), Ugga and Hope thinks they should "use their words." Since Punch-Monkeys communicate with punching, it basically boils down to an all-out brawl.
