"Snack Pact":

The family finds a cart full of tamales so delicious, they try to hide it from Rosa.
  • Berserk Button / Green-Eyed Monster: After seeing Ronnie Anne eating a tamale from a food truck, the rest of the family explains to her that Rosa gets really jealous if they like someone else's cooking (at least when it comes to traditional Mexican food). In fact, after seeing Carlos eating a churro from a new bakery, Rosa got so angry that she stopped cooking for him for an entire month.
Carlos: (traumatized) I had to survive on frozen waffles. (Carlitos puts his pacifier in Carlos's mouth to stop him from crying)
  • Blackmail: The second half of the episode has Sergio take a photo of the family eating tamales from the food truck and blackmail them into being his slaves if they don't want Rosa to find out.
  • Code Name: To get around Rosa, the rest of the Casagrandes come up with code names to communicate with each other:
    • Everyone refers to Rosa as "Mama Grande."
    • Carlota goes by "Fashion Plate."
    • Hector goes by "Mercado Man."
    • Carlos goes by "The Professor."
    • Carl, much to Ronnie Anne's annoyance, goes by "Hurricane Panther Shark Ninja."
    • We never hear what codenames that Ronnie Anne, Bobby, Maria, CJ and Frida end up going by.
  • Continuity Nod: The Casagrande family is watching Adios, Ana, Adios as Rosa leaves to do repairs.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: It is mentioned that when Rosa caught Carlos eating a churro from the bakery, she refused to cook for him for a whole month!
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Bobby and Ronnie Anne's dad, who is in Peru, tells her about the healing powers of bat guano, this gives Ronnie Anne the idea to ship Sergio (who has been treating the entire family like slaves) to Peru.
  • Global Ignorance: Not surprisingly, Bobby thinks that Fiji's in Europe (it's actually an island in the Pacific Ocean near Australia and New Zealand).
  • Inelegant Blubbering: This episode reveals that Bobby is so sensitive to onion fumes that his Onion Tears make his own girlfriend Lori's runny-makeup crying look far more dignified in comparison. Not only do tears stream down his face, but his eyes turn red, his nose runs, and he sobs uncontrollably, making him look more like Lori just DIED right in front of him!
  • In the Blood: Hector trying to fit himself into his grandchildren's clothing (after mistaking it for his own clothing) may give some insight as to where Bobby gets his ditziness from.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After a whole day of treating the Casagrande family (minus Rosa) like slaves, Sergio gets punished by being made to serve them!
  • Onion Tears: Bobby decides to distract Rosa by chopping the onions for her. This results in him crying so hard his Onion Tears overlap with Inelegant Blubbering (Ocular Gushers, loud sobbing, red eyes, runny nose, the works!). His face is still stained with tears when he dials in Carlota.
  • The Reveal: Combined with "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot to an extent—after the family comes clean, Rosa reveals that the tamales her family was going so crazy over were made from her own recipe. After the rest of the family questions her on it (with Frida asking outright her suegra, "Since when [does Rosa] give away [her] recipes?"), Rosa explains the whole story to them:
    • Gabby, the woman who runs the food truck, is married to the guy who owns/operates Jack's Hardware, the store where Rosa buys all of her tools from.
    • Rosa made a deal with Gabby (and, by extension, Gabby's husband): if Gabby can use Rosa's tamale recipe for the food truck, Rosa gets a lifetime discount on tools and other supplies from Jack's Hardware.
  • Scary Stinging Swarm: Carlota, Hector, and Carlos' plan nearly goes flat when Carlota's chased by some bees, resulting in Hector waving some flags and Carlos ziplining into a wall.
  • The Tooth Hurts: Ronnie Anne's teeth crack when Rosa snatches a taquito from her.

"The Horror-Scope" contains examples of:

Ronnie Anne finds a prediction that she will find love today. Things get awkward when Lincoln Loud comes over, wanting to tell her a secret...
  • Childhood Friend Romance: It's revealed that Rosa and Hector have known each other since Rosa was around Ronnie Anne's age.
  • Crossover: Lincoln Loud comes over to visit Ronnie Anne. As expected, Rosa plays Shipper on Deck.
  • Exact Words: Combined with Metaphorically True—in the end, Ronnie Anne (who's revealed to be a fire sign) does end up finding love...in the form of Sid's missing lovebird that is.
  • Generation Xerox: Not only do Ronnie Anne and Lincoln currently consider each other Just Friends, but when Rosa was Ronnie Anne's age, she and Hector considered each other Just Friends before they grew up and fell in love with each other.
  • I Have This Friend: Lincoln asks Ronnie Anne for advice about a friend who likes a girl, but they're in a long-distance relationship. Ronnie Anne, of course, assumes that Lincoln's talking about himself—but then it turns out that Lincoln really was talking about a friend of his (specifically Rusty).
  • Just Friends: The reason why Ronnie Anne doesn't want to fall in love with Lincoln is because she thinks it could ruin their friendship. They are still friends for now, but Rosa explains that she and Hector considered themselves to be this trope before they eventually fell in love and got married. Cue the Fanfic Fuel!
  • Kissing In A Tree: When it is predicted that people born under fire signs will "find love" that day, Sergio teases Ronnie Anne (who's a fire sign and whose old friend, Lincoln, is visiting) by singing the song. She promptly shoves guacamole up Sergio's beak before he can finish spelling "kissing".
  • Known Only by Their Stage Name: Ernesto Estrella is obviously based on Walter Mercado (a Hispanic astrologer/TV personality who had gone by the stage name of "Shanti Ananda"), but its unknown what Ernesto Estrella's real name is (assuming that "Ernesto Estrella" is in fact a stage name).
  • Not What It Looks Like: Just when it looks like Lincoln's about to propose to Ronnie Anne, she stops him, only for him to reveal that he has learned some magic tricks involving rings.
  • Running Gag: Sergio losing his beak whenever he tries eavesdropping on Ronnie Anne and Lincoln.
  • Spaghetti Kiss: Vito's dogs, Big Tony and Little Sal, do this at the pizza place that Ronnie Anne goes to with Lincoln.
  • Stellar Name: "Estrella" means "star" in Spanish.
  • Two out of Three Ain't Bad: Rosa argues to her youngest granddaughter that Ernesto's predictions are very accurate—for example, Ernesto predicted that Rosa would "have two children, a beautiful home and a charming husband." Then Hector comes in, letting out a loud belch and scratching his butt (even picking out a wedgie), which causes Rosa to sarcastically remark that "[Ernesto] got two out of three."
  • Western Zodiac: Ronnie Anne's revealed to be a fire sign in this episode—this would make her either an Aries (who're born between March 21st and April 19thnote ), a Leo (who're born between July 23rd and August 22ndnote ) or a Sagittarius (who're born from November 22nd to December 21stnote ). Any of these would fit Ronnie Anne, as she can be forceful (like an Aries) but is also confident (like a Leo) and outgoing (like a Sagittarius).
