Recap / The Boondocks S 2 E 10 Home Alone

Go To

"Home Alone" is the 10th episode of the 2nd season of The Boondocks, and the 25th episode overall. It originally aired on December 17, 2007.

When Grandad goes on vacation, he leaves the boys home with babysitter after babysitter until their left with Huey in charge... much to Riley's disappointment.

Tropes:

  • Babysitter from Hell:
    • An elderly woman managed to set them straight. Unfortunately, Robert accused her of too much freeloading and fires her.
    • Unsurprisingly, Uncle Ruckus is this to the boys in the present, threatening to use any racial inhumane punishment to them if they misbehave. The boys chase him out of the house as a result.
  • Babysitter's Nightmare:
    • At one point in the past, the boys terrorized one teenaged babysitter so bad (well, actually Riley, but Huey didn't help out, just warned the babysitter), they were referenced on a website that basically warns others to never respond to calls asking to take care of them.
    • A member of a role model group was presented to take care of them, but he was traumatized by the time Robert returned.
    • Riley ends up being this to Huey after driving away Ruckus and they try to handle themselves alone. They instead spend the whole time getting on each other's nerves until destroying the house in a BB gun shootout.
  • Berserk Button: Riley found out the hard way that attempting to leave the house while being grounded by Huey is a big no-no.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Huey doesn't fight Riley, but rather grounds him for minor actions like this (to be fair, Riley did spend all of their emergency money on clothes):
    • Riley's first attempt to leave the house is thwarted when a ready-to-strike Huey nails him with a kick as soon as he opens the front door. In another attempt, Riley tries to climb out of his bedroom window with a makeshift rope, but this goes wrong when Huey lights the rope on fire, causing Riley to scramble back up into the house. As Huey explains, Riley made several more attempts to escape and eventually had to be forcibly restrained with duct-tape handcuffs and barred windows (which Huey installed). Huey locked away Riley's guns, retaining only a couple for himself which he used to enforce his "supreme authority, when Riley starts to disrespect him, Huey silently shoots him in the leg for badmouthing him just because he told him that he wants to leave the house due to his harsh rules.
  • Polite Villains, Rude Heroes: Huey is very calm and polite, while Riley is somewhat a badmouthing hero, but he has a kind heart on Huey.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: While Huey answers the door and maintains this lie for the third and final time, Riley breaks out of the closet (apparently having picked the lock with a wire-hanger). Then Huey battle Riley with their airsoft guns, blaming each other for Robert leaving and both worried that he may never come back. Things have come to a head when Huey and Riley are holding a gun point blank at one another:
Huey: Damn you, Riley! You've ruined our family, you drove granddad away, now he's never coming back!
Riley: Granddad left 'cause of you. Nobody likes you Huey, 'cause you a gay-ass, hater, faggy boy!
    • Then they both shoot after Huey tells Riley not to shoot themselves out in a low whispered voice, knocking themselves out in the process:
Huey: Why does it always have to end up like this?
    Riley: Cause you's a bitch!
Huey: (Huey whispers Riley) Don't do it!
  • Too Dumb to Live: Riley spends the money Robert left behind for food on clothes. This dumb act prompts Huey to "ground" Riley.
  • You Are Grounded!: After Riley's brainless act of spending Granddad's emergency food money, Huey calmly grounds Riley and forbids him from leaving the house, much to the latter's disbelief.
