Plot

Upon hearing about an MIT invention that can supposedly read emotions, Sheldon decides to test it. Leonard and Penny fight over Penny's plan to invite her brother to stay with them, and Raj asks his ex-girlfriends for dating advice.

Tropes:

• Continuity Snarl: When Raj meets with his exes to find out what he's been doing wrong, Emily (the deaf one) suggests along with the others that Raj's fear of his parents led to their breakup. While that was true, the deaf Emily in the episode in which she actually appeared was a shameless Gold Digger who was only dating Raj for his money and dumped him when his parents cut him off. Not that she changed her ways since then...
• Fallback Marriage Pact: When Raj worries that he'll never find love, Howard jokingly says that if he and Bernadette ever broke up, Raj could marry him. When Raj asks why he would marry Howard instead of Bernadette after said break-up scenario, Howard responds that Stuart already claimed that option.
• Gone Horribly Right: Sheldon gets an emotion detecting machine to be able to tell what people actually feel. Unfortunately, that means he learns exactly how bad he makes people feel.
• Offscreen Breakup: Isabella, the maid who Raj started dating a few episodes back, broke up with Raj and didn't give him a reason. That kicks off the quest to find out what's wrong with him.
• One-Steve Limit: Played with. Raj gathers his ex-girlfriends, which includes two Emilys. He calls one Redheaded Emily, but then realizes the other Emily also has red hair, so he calls her Redheaded Emily Junior.
• Romantic Runner-Up: Raj discovers that all his exes found better relationships after they broke up with him.
