Aderholt convinces Stan to come back to counter-intelligence - even though Stan is reluctant to after the deaths of Gennadi and Sofia - after telling Stan about a man from a power plant who was recruited by a man they've code-named Harvest, whom the FBI has determined is an illegal. As it happens, Claudia tells Elizabeth she'll have to go to Chicago to extricate Harvest. Unfortunately, Elizabeth has to leave on Thanksgiving, even though Stan (along with Renee) has invited her and the rest of the Jennings family over (along with Aderholt, his wife Janine, and their baby). Philip and Paige try to cover for her by saying she had to go out of town on business. Even though Philip has been arguing with Elizabeth about her work lately, when she calls and talks to Henry, Philip realizes Elizabeth doesn't think she's going to be coming back (she admits her chances of survival are not good), so he calls Elizabeth from a pay phone and tells her he'll be joining her for the extraction.
Before that happens, Elizabeth "runs into" Jackson (Austin Abrams), an intern for Senator Nunn. She pretends to be a consultant working in D.C., they bond over movies, and she tells him to give her a call about a management training position.
Henry comes home for Thanksgiving, and notices the tension between Elizabeth and Philip. He also tells Philip about getting a summer job, and a classmate whose father is rich and has advice for Philip to get the travel agency back on track. Since Philip has already had to let people go from the agency, this makes him feel ashamed.
This episode contains examples of:
- Call-Back: Philip interrogates Elizabeth about Gennadi and Sofia's deaths, and he tells her he's refused to help Kimmy get abducted.
- At Thanksgiving, Aderholt and Janine talk to Renee about her application with the FBI.
- Dead Drop: Philip uses one to pass along information to Oleg about what Elizabeth is doing in Chicago.
- Foreshadowing: Since Harvest had met with a Russian Orthodox priest, Aderholt orders surveillance on Russian Orthodox priests in the D.C. area, which becomes important later.
- I Did What I Had to Do: While Elizabeth never uses these exact words, this is the attitude she conveys when Philip interrogates her about her killing Gennadi and Sofia.
- The Movie Buff: Elizabeth first runs into Jackson at a repertory theater showing Rififi (she tells him she had already seen Bob Le Flambeur). Later, they talk about The Naked City and Three Men and a Baby (as well as the film it was a remake of, Three Men and a Cradle), and Jackson gives her a program that has info about several movies, including Pépé le Moko, High Sierra, The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, The Big Clock, Key Largo, Les Diaboliques, Elevator to the Gallows, Touch of Evil, Two Men in Manhattan, and The French Connection.
- Period Piece: When Philip tries to use self-help language on Elizabeth, Elizabeth tells him she's tired of his "Forum" bullshit. Forum is what EST started calling itself starting in 1985.
- Precision F-Strike: When Philip and Henry play slot-car racing, Philip is so upset about everything that's been going on with work and Elizabeth that when his slot car keeps running off the track, he yells out, "Fuck!", which startles Henry and everyone else at the track.
- Premature Encapsulation: Harvest - the code-name of the man Elizabeth is trying to extract and the FBI are trying to capture - is the name of the following episode.
- Shout-Out: Tears for Fears' "Ideas as Opiates" plays when Philip is investigating what Elizabeth has been up to.
