Recap / The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Really Really Really Love You Ch 085

Go To

Rentarou is walking to school with his girlfriends when he notices a stray hair on Naddy's head. Brushing it back into place, Rentarou assures her that there's nothing wrong with dying her hair. Mimimi points out that Rentarou has no problems with his hair, which Rentarou says is necessary to avoid making Mimimi look bad by being near him. Yaku is scared of crossing the street due to her fear of cars, so Rentarou gives her a piggyback ride. After drawing a squirt gun in response to Yamame's scared reaction to a driver lighting a cigarette, Rentarou offers Kishika a piggyback ride the rest of the way to school, pausing to keep Meme's skirt down when a windstorm strikes.

At school, Rentarou leaves a collection of glamour shots for the Hanazonos. Later, during a visit to the library, Rentarou returns Shizuka's favor of book recommendations by gifting her, Nano, and Karane with books he wrote for them. During lunch, the girls discuss a road show showing Princess Mononoke, which triggers Kurumi's appetite and prompts Rentarou to supply her with some beef jerky before giving Mei doggy pets to relax. Momiji makes Kusuri jealous of the massages she gives Yaku before giving Mei a massage while getting massaged by Rentarou.

After school, Rentarou and Chiyo go out shopping for groceries before helping Kusuri with a new drug and then helping Iku with her baseball practice. After walking Iku home, Rentarou journeys back to his own home when he sees the God of Love emerge from a nearby wall. The two touch base with one another, with the conversation revealing that Rentarou hasn't told any of his girlfriends that they'd die without his love, and that he has no intention of doing so since he doesn't believe that their love for him would be genuine if they knew. The God of Love offers an apology for his mistake in fating him for so many girlfriends, but Rentarou is grateful for being able to meet so many great people so far.

Tropes:

  • Helping Granny Cross the Street: Rentarou carries Yaku on his back while crossing the street due to the latter's fear of cars.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Rentarou has no intention of telling any of his girlfriends that they'd die if they couldn't be together with him, because he doesn't believe that their love would be genuine if they knew.
  • Mistaken for Related: Downplayed. A passerby mistakenly thinks that Rentarou and Chiyo are siblings.
  • Questionable Consent: Discussed and defied. Rentarou doesn't want any of his girlfriends to date him out of an obligation to prevent an untimely death, citing this trope as the reason why he hasn't told any of them about the soulmate death clause.
  • Salt Solution: Rentarou attempts to drive the God of Love away with salt.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Naddy asks the girls if they saw Princess Mononoke on Friday. The Mouth To Mouth Force Feeding scene triggered Kurumi's appetite, and she eats some beef jerky the way San chewed the meat she fed to Ashitaka. Hahari attempts to complete the scene by pretending to be wounded, but Kurumi refuses to play along.
    • Kusuri attempts (and fails) to make a drug that would give its user Byakugan, and the result gives both her and Rentarou "Nobita eyes".
    • Rentarou threatens to Balse the shrine when the God of Love asks if he (Rentarou) is coming on to him.
