Scott is shaken when a nightmare coincides uncannily with the mauling of a school bus driver, an attack that puts Sheriff Stilinski and the rest of Beacon Hills on high alert. Meanwhile, Scott is excited for his first date with Allison, until it becomes a confusing group date with Lydia and Jackson to the bowling alley.

Tropes applying to this Episode:

  • Brutal Honesty: Fearing that he may have unintentionally injured someone, Scott goes to Derek for reassurance. Derek refuses to sugar coat it. He flat out tells Scott that yes, he is capable of hurting someone, yes he is capable of killing someone, and yes, he likely will kill someone if he continues to refuse to let Derek train him in controlling his new abilities.
  • Coincidental Broadcast: A streaming video of the crime being summarizing known details of the case is conveniently released at lunch time just as the kids are discussing what they know about the crime.
  • Double Date: Lydia/Jackson and Allison/Scott go on a bowling double date.
  • Erotic Dream: Invoked. When Scott says he's never woken up from a dream sweaty and out of breath, Stiles replies that he has but implies that he was a lot happier in the after math of his dreams than Scott was.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: When the Sheriff goes to check the abandoned Hale residence, the police dog in the back of his vehicle begins to flip out, frantically barking, foaming out the mouth, desperately trying to climb out the window. After a few seconds of indecision, the sheriff takes it as a sign that the dog is trying to warn him of something extremely dangerous inside of the home and decides to split. The dog, of course, recognizes Derek as a dangerous apex predator.
  • Move Along, Nothing to See Here: The teachers keep trying to convince the students to carry on with their normal routines rather than focus on the major crime being investigated right outside of their classroom in full view of the wall to wall windows. It works moderately well until the kids see someone being pulled out of the woods and loaded into an ambulance. They rush to the windows to gawk.
  • Or Was It a Dream?: Scott spends the majority of the episode trying to figure out if his nightmare was in fact just a dream or a blurred memory of something he's actually done. He panics when he gets to school and sees the bloody bus from his dreams but can't find Allison.
  • Reactive Continuous Scream: Melissa McCall and Stiles scare each other half to death when Stiles sneaks into Scott's bedroom in the middle of the night.
  • The Reveal: Derek is not the werewolf that turned Scott. There is an Alpha werewolf roaming the area that is indiscriminately attacking people, turning those he can, even though the bite can be deadly to anyone whose body can't handle it.
  • Reveal Shot: After several minutes of talking about an intense nightmare he's had, Scott and Stiles exit the school building to see an exact duplicate of his dream (a wrecked and bloody bus) being processed by the police.
  • You Owe Me: Derek agrees to help Scott with his memory issue in exchange for a future favor.
