Scott tries to control his new werewolf powers, and faces mounting pressure from friends (including new love interest, Allison) and family alike to play in the coming lacrosse game. Can he stop his transformation before it's too late?

Tropes applying to this Episode:

  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: When Scott's mom asks what's wrong with his eyes, he worries they're glowing again, but she simply means that he looks tired.
  • Enemy Rising Behind: Derek sneaks up on Scott while he's streaming with Stiles. Stiles tries to warn him, but the message doesn't get through until a split second before Derek grabs Scott, leading to the younger boy getting the piss scared out of him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Derek is correct in pointing out that it's dangerous to be playing contact sports while struggling to control aggression triggered shifting and that Scott's endangering himself and everyone around him by not properly learning control as soon as possible.
  • Join or Die: Derek repeatedly warns Scott that he is now part of a secret group and that he has to learn to control his new abilities or he risks exposing all werewolves in the area. Derek makes it clear that he will kill Scott if his uncontrolled shifts cause hunters to descend on the area.
  • Mistaken for Murderer: When Scott and Stiles find the missing half of the previous episode's murder victim buried on Derek's property, they assume he is a murderer and tip off the police, leading to Derek being falsely arrested for his sister's murder and her body be exhumed and taken away.
  • Non-Answer: Scott's mom asks if he has ever taken drugs. He replies by asking her if she has. She hesitates for a split second then tells him to go to bed.
  • Power Incontinence: Scott struggles to control his shifts whenever he gets angry or worked up. At one point he wolves out and his wolf begins trying to hunt Stiles.
  • Tame His Anger: Scott has to learn to control his anger during the full moon
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: Scott has trouble focusing after discovering that Allison's dad is the hunter who tried to kill him the night before.
