Recap / Teen Titans S 5 E 11 Calling All Titans

Go To

The Teen Titans finish their mission of giving communicators to young heroes all around the world, thereby setting up a network to better coordinate the fight against the Brotherhood of Evil. However, thanks to the communicator Madame Rouge stole by impersonating Hotspot, the Brain now knows all of their movements. The Legion of Doom launch an all-out assault on Titans everywhere, resulting in numerous defeats and captures. When Robin learns what's going on, he sends out a self-destruct signal to the communicators, stopping the Brain's attack. But with only a handful of Titans left, excluding Robin, what can be done?

Tropes

  • All in the Manual: It's never stated in-show, but the assassin attacking Speedy is Cheshire, with whom he had a Dating Catwoman relationship in the comics. Also, the man who attacked Raven with Kid Wykkyd is Psimon.
  • Bloodless Carnage: The ninjas "killed" by Bushido and Robin simply disappear into smoke.
  • The Bus Came Back: Multiple previously one-time characters reappear:
    • Atlas.
    • Malchior(in his paper form).
    • Thunder and Lightning.
    • Warp.
    • Steamroller.
    • Wintergreen, Slade's butler.
  • Call-Back: To "Trust".
  • The Cameo: Wonder Girl is sighted in another Freeze-Frame Bonus, much like the one in Teen Titans S 5 E 2 Homecoming Part Two.
  • Chess Motifs: The Brotherhood's final assault on the Titans is represented as a chess game between Monsieur Mallah (playing as the Titans, represented by the white pieces) and the Brain (playing as himself and the Brotherhood of Evil, represented by the black).
  • Disney Death: Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire are treated to this.
  • Evil Gloating: Madame Rouge makes sure to rub in that Robin mistaking her for Hot Spot allowed her to take his communicator.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Somehow it never occurs to Best Boy that he can simply fly to deliver the communicator to Jericho.
  • From a Single Cell: Madame Rouge manages to regenerate from being frozen by Robin and shattered into pieces.
  • It's All My Fault: Robin realizes this after the Evil Gloating moment above.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: At the beginning of the episode, Robin has the Titans split up so they can cover more ground in recruiting heroes. Beast Boy points out the risk in this, as he's been fighting the Brotherhood his whole life, but the rest of the Titans are eager to finish the mission and return home.
  • Mythology Gag: When Pantha learns that Wildebeest was captured, she becomes very concerned. In the original comics, Wildebeest was actually a transformed baby that Pantha eventually adopted.
  • Off Screen Moment Of Awesome: We don't see how Beast Boy, Herald, Jericho, and Pantha defeated their attackers.
  • Only Sane Man: For once, Beast Boy acts like this when he disagrees with the idea for the Titans to split up. Unfortunately, the others are in too much of a hurry to finish their mission to listen.
  • Ship Tease: It's a subtle thing, but once Starfire seems to have been defeated, the piece that is taken off the board is the white queen. Robin is represented by the white king.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Robin finds out he's the one responsible for making the Brotherhood of Evil attack all the heroes all at once, because he gave the communicator to Madame Rouge (disguised as Hot Spot) in "Trust".
  • Title Drop: Robin: "Calling all Titans!"
