Recap / Teen Titans Go Space House

Go To

The Teen Titans "randomly" win a vacation in a luxurious house in space, but learn that they have to be roommates with the DC Superhero Girls. After dealing with an impending meteor, as well as each other, it turns out that their current predicament is actually part of a villainous plan to contain all of the multiverse's most notable people.

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Part 2 has half of the Titans and DC girls enter Zatanna's hat after Green Lantern's ring falls in and is warped to a magical alternate dimension. The remaining characters decide not to follow them, using production limitations and how much it would cost to animate all of them at once as an excuse to just stay in the Space House and watch television.
  • Brick Joke: After Green Lantern's ring falls into her hat at the start of Part 2, Zatanna tries just pulling it out, but can only pull out rabbits. In that part's climax, the power of the ring mutates Beast Boy into a bunny-dragon, and they're able to subdue him by having someone reach into the hat and grab hold of him.
  • Cassandra Truth: In Part 1, both Batgirl and Robin dismiss Bumblebee's fears as irrational. Said fears, involving a meteorite hitting the Space House's dome and an alien hiding in her room, both turn out to be completely accurate.
  • Character Focus: Part 1 focuses mostly on Robin, Batgirl, and Bumblebee as they learn they'll be living in the Space House together and have to deal with Bumblebee's fears. Part 2 focuses on Robin, Raven, Beast Boy, Green Lantern, and Zatanna as they enter Zatanna's hat to find Green Lantern's dropped ring, with the rest of the cast deciding not to follow. Part 3 focuses on Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Starfire having to deal with a meteor made out of meat, with Beast Boy playing a minor role near the end. It isn't until the fourth and final Part that every member of the Titans and the Superhero Girls are given equal focus, when they have to all work together to stop Brainiac.
  • Collector of the Strange: Brainiac who usually bottles whatever catches his fancy, is depicted here as luring superheroes and supervillains from across the multiverse to take permanent residence in an idyllic suburb of his own design.
  • Crisis Crossover: The Titans team up with the DC Super Hero Girls 2019, along with multiple other heroes and villains across the animated DC multiverse in the final Part, to fight Brainiac.
  • Cyberspace: In Part 3, when the group argues over how to deal with the meteor, they decide to settle it by running various simulations in a virtual reality room and testing which plan will be the most likely to succeed. After Supergirl, Starfire, and Wonder Woman's simulations all fail, they run out of time and decide to go with Cyborg's.
  • Domed Hometown: The series takes place in a house in space with a force field dome preventing the Titans or Superhero girls from leaving. It's thus fitting that Braniac, the villain best known for bottling cities, turns out to be involved.
  • Drunk with Power: When Beast Boy gets his hands on Green Lantern's power ring in Part 2, he goes absolutely berserk, attacking his former friends with a giant tater tot so they can't take it away from him.
  • Face Your Fears: The theme of the first episode is everyone encouraging Bumblebee to face her fear of a dangerous alien by fighting it directly while they all hide behind the safety of a metal door. It backfires when Robin mutates into a starfish-like alien because he had eaten so much of the original's pink sludge, and Bumblebee has a panic attack while having to beat up both Starro (the original) and Robin.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In Part 1, Bumblebee is concerned about the dome surrounding the Space House, as a single small meteorite could cause enough of a crack to doom them all. Dealing with such a meteorite is the focus of Part 3.
    • The Space House's AI terminal has the same three-circle logo as Brainiac, who's only revealed to be the villain of the mini-series in the final part.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Part 3 seems to end with Cyborg sacrificing himself to manually detonate a bomb and destroy the meteor, though it turns out he detached his head and just sacrificed his body.
  • Horrible Housing: While everyone else's bedrooms in the Space House meet all of their needs, the room Bumblebee is stuck with is filled with green haze and has a cryogenic pod that turns out to house an alien she's terrified of.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Cyborg criticizes Beast Boy for taking Jessica’s power ring, while wearing some of Wonder Woman’s accessories.
  • It Was with You All Along: After Green Lantern loses her power ring in Part 2, The Team Normal Robin tries to teach her that it's not a tool that makes you a superhero, but your innate wit and heroism. She finally takes it to heart in the climax when she finds a way to beat Beast Boy possessing her ring.
  • Manchild: In Part 4, it turns out that Brainiac still lives with his mom and treats his collected super-people like an action figure collection. The Titans and Superhero Girls convince Brainiac to let everyone go by offering to teach him how to act mature and responsible so his mom won't nag him anymore.
  • Multi-Part Episode: In syndication, the series is split into four parts.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In Part 4, after the Titans and Girls help Brainiac gain maturity in exchange for their freedom, he decides that his entire hero collection is now "kid's stuff" and decides to "throw it away" by blowing them up with a giant laser.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Part 1 has Bumblebee terrified of an alien that's been hiding in her bedroom, which sneaks out in the middle of the night to steal food from their fridge, and she ends up fighting it and throwing it out of the airlock. The alien then turns out to be Starro, who had been invited to the Space House just like everyone else, hadn't intentionally caused anyone harm at that point, and was genuinely looking forward to rooming with her.
  • Special Edition Title: Instead of the regular Teen Titans Go! opening, the episodes have a more stylized title sequence explaining the premise of the mini-series.
  • So What Do We Do Now?: After Brainiac is defeated it's questioned what to do with all the people displaced from their home realities. Robin and Wonder Woman nonchalantly say that nothing will be done and they'll just live in their domed homes in space now.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • Part 3 opens with Wonder Woman stating "It is certainly a relief to not be burdened with perilous circumstances" immediately before the Space House's AI informs them that a meteor impact is imminent. Later, when flying a rocket to the meteor in order to blow it up, Cyborg states that they won't hit anything in space moments before their ship hits an asteroid cluster.
    • In Part 4, Wonder Woman states that "Wherever our destination, I'm sure it will be enjoyable" moments before they learn that the Space House's destination is Brainiac's mothership.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Robin's transformation into a Starro-like alien at the end of Part 1, Beast Boy's transformation into a bunny-dragon at the end of Part 2, and Cyborg sacrificing his body at the end of Part 3 are all undone without any explanation after their respective episode's end.
  • Whole-Plot Reference:
    • Part 2 has Beast Boy, fascinated by the power of Green Lantern's ring, turn into Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. The climax even has the heroes riding upon giant birds and fighting Beast Boy on a tower of cards evocative of Mount Doom.
    • Cyborg's plan to deal with the meteor in Part 3 is literally to just recreate Armageddon (1998). This includes recreating the iconic slow Team Power Walk scene, as Beast Boy just washed the floor and they didn't want to slip by walking too fast.
