Believing that the other Titans are spoiled by modern conveniences, Robin forces the others into an 1800s style adventure, complete with covered wagons, attacks from the elements, and dysentery! Yay?

This episode contains examples of:

  • Callousness Towards Emergency: Beast Boy falls off the wagon and breaks his leg. Instead of checking on him along with the others, Robin asks the Titans for a list of options, which didn't sit well with the others.
  • Determinator: Robin is determined to teach the Titans a lesson about the pioneers and make it to Oregon the old-fashioned way, even when the other Titans are all just ghosts and he has to pull the wagon himself after eating Hughead.
  • Emergency Food Supply Animal: Starfire looks at the cart oxen, Hughead, like this. Eventually Robin does have to do it to him.
  • Enemy to All Living Things: Robin shoots far more than the 100 tons of food he can carry back to the wagon when they need rations, stating that it's the only fun part of the whole adventure. Later, after Beast Boy dies of dysentery and comes back as a ghost, the ghosts of a buffalo, squirrel and deer also appear and growl at Robin for killing them.
  • False Reassurance: Robin informs the Titans the Oregon Trail won't take a couple of days. They are relieved until Robin tells them it will take several months and they won't use cars or magic powers to advance.
  • Good News, Bad News: There's no good news at all:
Robin: Titans, I have some bad news and some bad news. First, the bad news. Beast Boy was bitten by a rattlesnake.
Beast Boy: I was? [Looks at a rattlesnake biting his arm] Ahhh! I can't feel my hand! It's swelling so bad!
Robin: Now for the bad news. Beast Boy has dysentery.
    Beast Boy: What's that?
Raven: That's where you poop till you croak.
Beast Boy: [Stomach growling] Uh oh! [Rushes to the bushes to poop]
  • Lazy Bum:
    • At the start of the episode, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Cyborg were too lazy to walk to the air conditioner to turn it on, motivating Robin to force them to learn about a time before modern conveniences.
    • Robin gleefully hunts all the wildlife even though they can only carry so much of his kill with them for food. Because hunting is the only fun thing about being on the Oregon Trail.
  • Misery Builds Character: Robin states this about the hardships of the Oregon Trail.
  • Negative Continuity: All of the Titans die (Beast Boy by dysentery, Starfire by freezing to death, Raven and Cyborg by measles and a cold, and lastly Robin in the ending by dysentery). At least until the next episode.
  • Nobody Poops: Averted with Beast Boy who gets dysentery and rushes to the bushes to poop...then dies.
  • No Sympathy: Robin displays this throughout the episode, unconcerned about the Titans' complaints of the hardships of the Oregon Trail.
  • Talking Is a Free Action: Robin continues to read out the 7 options they have available to them while Beast Boy screams in agony over having a broken leg. The other Titans call him out on it.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The entire episode is one to The Oregon Trail.
