Mario and the gang think back on their childhoods and how they became the people they are now.
- Breather Episode: No conflict is driving the episode and it's just them talking about their past when they were younger. Until the ending...
- Call-Back: Not only is Meggy's house still a hotel after the events of "Mario's Bed & Breakfast", but the army of Nostalgia Critics the SMG4 crew wooed are still there.
- Freak Out: SMG4 has one at the end of the episode after realizing he can't remember his past, not helped by Mario's Adoption Diss, causing him to Skyward Scream to "Gangsta's Paradise".
- Origins Episode: For most of the Glitchy Gang, plus the Old Man.
- For Meggy, it's that she was inspired to train for Splatfest after watching a Turf War and got her beanie from the player (One-Shot Wren) who saved her when she ran onto the field in the middle of the battle.
- For Mario and Bowser, it's where Bowser met Peach and became infatuated with her, and where Mario discovered his love for spaghetti.
- Also the Old Man was the head of the daycare center Mario, Bowser, and Peach were at, got his hair burned off by Bowser.
- For Luigi, it's after stealing a vacuum and sucking up his son that King Boo hates him.
- For Melony, she apparently did a lot as a melon before becoming human, such as going to war, into outer space, and meeting figures like Hideo Kojima and Barack Obama.
- For Bob, it's after being bullied by Wario and Waluigi that he gained his eponymous blade hands from a young Big Smoke and used them for revenge.
- For Shroomy, it's where he got his bite mark at Freddy's Pizzeria during his birthday party and became the scout boy he is now, revealing that his "Anti" personality was the original. It's also revealed that the Doomslayer is his uncle.
- Skyward Scream: SMG4 after Mario says he's adopted in the middle of his Freak Out, which causes him to scream to Gangsta's Paradise. Said scream can be heard from outer space.
- Wham Episode: SMG4 doesn't remember his life before his first appearance in "account loss".
- Wham Line: When SMG4 is asked if he remembers how he came to be, his reaction is... let's just say it causes him to have an identity crisis.SMG4: Oh, that's easy! It all started when... When... well it all started... I... don't remember...

Bob: What? You have amnesia or something?
SMG4: No, the first thing I remember is just appearing outside of Peach's castle. Everything before that is... all a blur.
Shroomy: Oh gosh! You don't even remember your parents?
SMG4: N-no... Where am I from?! Who am I?!? WHAT AM I?!?!?
Mario: You're adopted.
