While on patrol, the Hyperforce discover a buried man wearing their emblem on his head, who turns out to be Captain Shuggazoom, a protector of the city from before their time. As he explains how he ended up underground, the origin of many secrets are finally revealed.

Tropes:

• Buried Alive: Captain Shuggazoom's battle with the demon beast resulted in both of them ending up in a deep sleep and falling into a chasm that ended up covered by a landslide, with nobody ever aware of what became of either of them.
• But Now I Must Go: At the end of the episode, after the Hyperforce and Captain Shuggazoom defeat the demon beast and send it back to its own dimension, Captain Shuggazoom departs for the Alchemist's old lab, hoping to find something his friend left behind.
• The Corrupter: This episode confirms that the Dark Ones were the ones responsible for the Alchemist becoming Skeleton King.
• Evil Takes a Nap: A demon beast from the Dark Ones' dimension has been asleep underground from even before the Hyperforce was formed. Unfortunately, the heroes accidentally wake it up, allowing it to resume its threat.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: The demon beast opens a vortex leading to its home dimension so that it could leak into Shuggazoom. After Captain Shuggazoom puts it back to sleep, the Super Robot uses its Chest Blaster to send the demon beast through the vortex and back to its own dimension.
• Hope Spot: Upon learning that the anti-sleep ray was waking up the demon beast Captain Shuggazoom had been buried with, Otto quickly turns it off, and at first it seems he did it just in time.
  Otto: (Relieved breath) Whew! Ha-ha! That was a close call!
  (The demon beast's screech is heard, shaking the Super Robot)
  Nova: Otto!
• I Warned You: A one-sided version. When the Alchemist reveals a portal he had created to look in on the realm of the Dark Ones, Captain Shuggazoom shows his uneasy about, commenting on how dangerous it was. Following the accident in which the demon beast got loose and allowed the Dark Ones to afflict him with his Bit-by-Bit Transformation into Skeleton King, the Alchemist comments that his friend was right.
• It's All My Fault: Upon hearing how the Alchemist was completely transformed by the Dark Ones, Captain Shuggazoom blames himself, feeling he should've been there to save his friend. Chiro comforts him by saying he had no choice but to leave the Alchemist; he had to save the city from the demon beast.
• Jerkass: Even when he was an ordinary monkey, Mandarin was not a nice animal. It was because of him that the Dark Ones ended up transforming the Alchemist.
• Mass "Oh, Crap!": The heroes have one when they realize that the sleep ray's reverse setting was waking up the demon beast.
• My Greatest Second Chance: Captain Shuggazoom sees helping the Hyperforce fight the demon beast as this.
  Captain Shuggazoom: I failed the Alchemist; I won't fail the Hyperforce!
• Never Got To Say Good Bye: Just before Captain Shuggazoom departs with the Deep Sleep ray to use on the demon beast, he promises the Alchemist he'd be back. The Alchemist, whose transformation into Skeleton King was beginning, comments he hoped he'd at least be back to say good-bye. He wouldn't be.
• Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In using the sleep ray's reverse setting to wake up Captain Shuggazoom, the Hyperforce also ends up waking up the demon beast.
• The Reveal:
  • It's revealed how the Alchemist became Skeleton King: The Dark Ones had forcibly corrupted him.
    • It's also implied that this is what caused Mandarin to go evil, as he stared directly into the abyss that was the Dark Ones' dimension. In the flashbacks, before the accident with the portal occurred, we see that he had white highlights in his eyes, just like the rest of the Monkey Team. Yet from his time as a Robot Monkey onwards, the highlights of his eyes are red.
  • It turns out that the initial reason the Alchemist built the Silver Monkey that would end up being Antauri's new body was for it to be Captain Shugazoom's sidekick.
• Rip Van Winkle: Captain Shugazoom has been in a Deep Sleep underground since before the Hyperforce was formed, even before Skeleton King came to be.
