Distracted by the state of her comatose sister Christiane, who greatly resembles Yoshika, Captain Gertrude Barkhorn decides to go out in style fighting the Neuroi. But when she gets injured, Yoshika and Perrine H. Clostermann must set aside their differences to rescue her.


Tropes in this episode:

  • Bitch Slap: Once the Neuroi is destroyed at the end of this episode, Minna slaps Barkhorn for her recklessness.
  • Catch a Falling Star: Yoshika and Perrine catch Barkhorn to slow down her fall after the Neuroi blasts her out of the sky.
  • Death Seeker: Barkhorn decides to go out in style during the Neuroi fight due to her being unable to save Chris. It backfires on her big time when the Neuroi blasts her out of the sky thanks to her recklessness.
  • Foreshadowing: At the beginning of the episode, Barkhorn tells Yoshika someone has to be left behind in battle. Guess what she says to Yoshika after she gets shot out of the sky?
  • Heroic BSoD: Barkhorn has technically been in one of these ever since the Neuroi attacked Karlsland.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Barkhorn experiences this moment after Yoshika heals her and realizes that Chris may be still alive, to the point where she finally kills the Neuroi.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Barkhorn blames herself for not being able to save Chris during the Neuroi's assault on Karlsland.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: During Barkhorn's mission, she wildly charges at the Neuroi by herself. It doesn't work and she gets shot down for her troubles.
  • My Greatest Failure: For Barkhorn, it's not being able to save Chris from the Neuroi attack on Karlsland.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Perrine knocking Barkhorn into the line of fire while Barkhorn charges recklessly into it only leads to the latter being shot out of the sky.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Yoshika would rather try helping as many people as she can as opposed to using her powers on the Neuroi and leaving Barkhorn to die in the battlefield.
  • Oh, Crap!: Barkhorn can only watch in shock after realizing the Neuroi is about to shoot her out of the sky.
  • Shoo the Dog: Barkhorn attempts to shoo Yoshika when the former gets injured, given how much her sister suffered. Yoshika disagrees.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: When Barkhorn gets injured, Yoshika and Perrine have to help heal her.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Barkhorn gets two at the end of this episode. First, Yoshika lectures Barkhorn for being unable to protect her people and Chris, and later Minna gives her an earful for her recklessness after the Neuroi is destroyed.
