"A war is coming. I'm afraid your friends in Hawkins are very much in the eye of the storm."
Dr. Owens

It's been almost a year since the Starcourt Mall disaster. Joyce, Eleven, Jonathan and Will have moved west to start a new life with mixed results. Mike, Dustin, Max and Lucas are now in high school but have drifted apart. Unbeknownst to everyone, Hopper is alive but in the custody of the Soviets, one of whom strikes a deal with him for his freedom. Around Hawkins, several teenagers are found murdered in horrific ways. With the locals firmly in the grip of the Satanic Panic, the local misfit is made into a scapegoat. Meanwhile, the scientists at Hawkins Lab have continued their research into the paranormal and made a discovery that requires them to recruit Eleven for the fate of the world.
