Part 4: Picking up from where Part 1 left off, Quinlan has brought Aayla and the eight other Jedi accompanying her to the cellar where Tahr has been keeping nearly four hundred other Jedi shackled to the walls. As Aayla's team free the captive Jedi, she asks Quinlan what happened. Quinlan explains how he and the others were defeated by a "demon", referring to Jackal. Aayla is shocked that a single entity is capable of what Quinlan describes. Quinlan explains that after his Jedi strike force had captured the Imperial command center, they split up their forces to pursue other objectives with Quinlan leading several hundred Jedi in pursuit of the fleeing Imperial forces. Quinlan notes that everything had been going according to plan until they encountered Tahr and Jackal.

Quinlan is suddenly interrupted mid-sentence by a returned Tahr Whyler. Quinlan leaps at the chance for vengeance and reveals to Aayla that Jackal had already left the building hours ago to attack the Basilica. Tahr surprises everyone by returning their lightsabers and allowing his former prisoners to rearm themselves. In response to Aayla's suspicion, Tahr claims that he gave them back their weapons to make the fight more fun for himself. Quinlan expresses disbelief at Tahr's claim, pointing out how he could barely contend with him in their previous fight. Tahr explains that he normally restrains his full power, but now no longer sees a point in doing so. Upon sensing the power which Tahr had kept hidden up until now, Aayla is horrified and perceives him as a living Force Wound. As Tahr faces down the Jedi, he announces that he is an Alpha-Plus Psyker.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Call-Back: In Part 1, Quinlan Vos describes the Cold-Blooded Torture he experienced in Tahr Whyler's captivity as being worse than the time Count Dooku tortured him into falling to the Dark Side.
  • Cassandra Truth: Two examples in Part 3.
    • During their fight, Samael (having just been exposed as an undercover Inquisitor) tries to convince Mace and Obi-Wan to let him kill the Genestealer Jenova, warning them that her very existence threatens the entire galaxy. Unsurprisingly, Mace doesn't believe the word of an Imperial spy that he just saw trying to murder what seemed to be a helpless girl in cold blood.
    • Later in that same episode, Commissar Shadrick's attempt to activate the Basilica's Virus Bomb is blocked by Captain Sterrn. Shadrick explains that he had been authorized by an Inquisitor to destroy Axum, a claim which is immediately disbelieved by Sterrn.
  • Deadly Euphemism: Near the end of Part 2, Samael assures Jevona that he's going to "take care of" her brother Bathrazan. He then proceeds to whisper a Pre-Mortem One-Liner into Bathrazan's ear before blasting him with a Death Ray.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: Subverted in Part 3. Samael is getting the tar beaten out of him in his battle with Mace and Obi-Wan, and seems to be on his last legs. Taking pity on him, Obi-Wan tries to get Samael to surrender, promising that he will be treated fairly as their prisoner. For a moment, Samael considers faking a surrender with the intention of escaping from his captors later, internally noting that it wouldn't be the first time he's done something like that, though he ultimately declines the offer.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: A captured Farnus does this while being questioned by Ahsoka in Part 1:
Farnus: I-I won't tell you an-anything! I-I...I am Farnus Eletan, Munitorum Designation 21411, of the 174th Vastellen Imperial Irregulars, Infantry Division!
Ahsoka: Well...OK, I thought you just said you weren't going to tell me anything.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Farnus blames Ahsoka for all the atrocities committed by the Orks and the Dark Eldar in the Imperium's home galaxy/universe solely because she too is a nonhuman, nevermind that Ahsoka is a Togruta, which is an entirely separate species that doesn't even live in the same galaxy as those xenos.
  • Mood Whiplash: The first half of Part 1 starts out somewhat comedic as Ahsoka tries to pry information out of a stubborn Farnus, who reacts by repeating the same phrase over and over again to her increasing annoyance. Then it becomes a tear jerker as Farnus eventually snaps and goes on a long Motive Rant on behalf of the Imperium about all the horrors that the xenos of the Milky Way have subjected 40K humanity to for thousands of years. The second half of the episode then switches right over to horror and grimdark as we are shown Quinlan in the aftermath of being brutally tortured to his breaking point by Tahr.
  • Multi-Part Episode: "Mortal Precipices" is a four-parter, with each part released separately from each other.
  • Not Helping Your Case: While trying to convince Farnus (who is strapped down to a gurney) that she means him no harm, Ahsoka uses a Jedi mind trick to temporarily calm him down from a panic attack he was having due to the extreme stress he felt from being a prisoner of war. Of course, the fact that she basically used Mind Control to manipulate his emotions without his consent only freaks Farnus out and causes him to enter a worse panic attack as soon as her mind trick wears off.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Macs Windu says one at the end of Part 2 as he and Obi-Wan prepare to attack Samael after the latter is exposed as an undercover Inquisitor during the Axum resistance's assault on the Basilica of Salvation.
Mace: We were interrupted the last time we spoke... let's finish that conversation now.
  • The Scream: Farnus lets out a really dramatic scream of terror when he comes to inside a Republic medical tent and sees medical droids (or "Abominable Intelligences" as the Imperium would label them).
  • Unwanted Assistance: When Farnus initially has his panic attack in Part 1, a nearby Republic medical droid approaches him and tries to inject a sedative into him using a large syringe sticking out of its arm. The droid had been sincerely trying to get Farnus to calm down and attempted to use a sedative because it noticed his heart rate was spiking and didn't want him to faint or potentially suffer a heart attack. Of course, the whole reason Farnus was panicking was due to being terrified of the medical droids, so this only makes him hyperventilate until Ahsoka intervenes and gets the droid to back off.
