Recap / Star vs. the Forces of Evil S4 E34 "Here to Help"

Go To

Moon arrives to save the day... or does she?

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: After Eclipsa is nearly crushed by a Vengeful Vending Machine while holding Meteora, she holds the baby out as if letting Moon hold her, but then turns around and has Meteora climb into the same vending machine.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: After Star tells Marco she remembers everything about his Love Confession in "Mama Star", they kiss for the first time since "Booth Buddies". This time, however, their kiss is less awkward, and much more genuine.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When River says he plans to fetch Globgor some meat, Eclipsa points out he's a vegetarian. River agrees to get chicken.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Mina is furious at another soldier that cracked a joke about Doug-Doug being dead.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In hindsight, the fact that Moon's village was still racist against monsters even when the monsters were under attack should have been a big red flag.
    • In this episode, River is a little awkward around the wounded, and quickly says that he's sure Moon knows the best way to help.
  • Ironic Episode Title: Moon says she is "here to help" upon arriving at the temple, but reveals she has a very disingenuous idea of "helping".
  • Inconvenient Attraction: Marco fell in love with Star when he first met her, but didn't know how to handle those feelings at the time.
  • Instant Flight: Just Add Spinning!: The "hair" like parts of Mina's armor's helmet can spin to allow flight just like her real Helicopter Hair.
  • I Don't Want to Ruin Our Friendship: When Star manages to convince Marco to talk about his confession, he admits that he didn't understand how he could fall in love at first sight or how he could maintain his friendship with Star while having a crush on her.
  • Leave the Two Lovebirds Alone: Star immediately takes Marco to the piggoat pens so she can talk to him about his love confession. After talking it out, Star admits that she loves him too and shares their first genuine kiss.
  • Love at First Sight: Played with. Marco says he's loved Star since they first met, but then says he doesn't believe in love at first sight and his feelings have gotten stronger since then.
  • Love Confession: Star remembers Marco's confession in the Realm of the Magic, and reciprocates it.
Star: Marco... I want you to love me, because... I love you.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Star tells Marco that she remembers his love confession. He immediately freaks out and quickly starts composing an excuse. Only to realise that he has no valid excuse for himself and Star isn't likely to forget something like that. Extra points for the explosion sound effect during the shot of Marco's horrified face.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Star and Marco now openly consider themselves boyfriend and girlfriend.
  • The Reveal: Mina wasn't just supported by the Magic High Commission, but also by Moon. That's how she made the armors and empowered new Solarians (Sebastian included). Travel between dimensions was likely cut off to keep Star out of danger on Earth.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: When Star admits that she remembers Marco's confession, he immediately starts fumbling and exhaustedly admits that he loved her ever since she first came into his life. When he says that he didn't know if Star loved him too, Star interrupts him by asking if they could just kiss.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: The Solarian warrior that put mortal injuries on several people (including Globgor) and required the magical equivalent of a WMD to be brought down was named Doug-Doug.
  • Uncertain Doom: It's unclear if Doug-Doug (the Solarian who attacked the Monster Temple first) survived Eclipsa destroying his armor. All the other Solarians piloted from the helmet, which was entirely undamaged, but he never moves, tries to get out, or responds to Mina' words. Another Solarian makes a crack about him being dead, and Mina says to check his helmet, but we never see what they found out.
  • Vengeful Vending Machine: Eclipsa tries to get candy from a vending machine by tipping it in a way where it could fall on top of her, even while she's holding Meteora. Both are unharmed, and Eclipsa then manages to get Meteora to crawl into the machine and pull the candy out directly.
  • Wham Line: Moon dramatically makes her true intentions known, first to Eclipsa, then Star.
Moon: You and Globgor should surrender.
Eclipsa: What?! Moon, what do you mean?
Moon: Surrender now and this is all over.
    [...]
Star: Are you working for Mina?
Moon: No. Mina's working for me.
