Recap / Star vs. the Forces of Evil S4 E32 "Ready, Aim, Fire"

Go To

Star arrives in Mewni as a soldier attacks Monster Castle.

Tropes:

  • Ambiguous Situation: While it's made apparent where Star, Marco, and Janna ended up, it's not revealed where exactly Tom ended up, if he got teleported in the first placenote .
  • Battle Couple: Eclipsa and Globgor are initially shown fighting alongside each other to stop the giant armor.
  • Black-and-White Insanity:
    • The Magic High Commission have ultimately devolved into this mindset now that Eclipsa and Globgor rule Mewni. Despite the two receiving the support of a substantial part of the kingdom and proving to be anything but evil, the Commission only cares that they're in charge at all, and are perfectly willing to support Mina, who Hekapoo points out as completely insane, in her attempts at regicide just so they can get rid of Eclipsa and Globgor.
    • Mina herself further demonstrates her mindset veers past Fantastic Racism and into this. In her eyes, she is perfectly sane for thinking Mewni has been invaded by monsters and as such wants to "give back Mewni to the mewmans" by committing regicide, not caring that some of the people she attacks in her rampage are mewmans. In her eyes, monsters and anyone that even remotely supports them are evil, and she is good.
  • Behemoth Battle: Globgor briefly battles the giant armor by growing to the same size, but her sword quickly takes him out of the fight.
  • Calling Parents by Their Name: When discussing the Solarian warrior, Eclipsa only refers to her mother as "Queen Solaria". This could just be to stay on topic (their relation has yet to be mentioned outside of The Magic Book of Spells), but it is fitting for how drastically opposed Eclipsa is to her mother's beliefs and how they eventually devolved into full blown madness.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Eclipsa's magic barrier beginning to crumble under the armor's relentless assault.
  • Deus Exit Machina: As Globgor is an extremely versatile fighter capable of fighting off all three of the Magic High Commission simultaneously, and Mina's main means of combat is her giant suit of armor, he'd be able to hold her off in a Behemoth Battle by himself, allowing the others to beat her. To prevent this, Globgor is injured by a Solarian Laser Blade, putting him in immense pain and neutralizing his size shifting powers, effectively knocking him out of the fight.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Mina's rant about how Mewni used to be great, it's all the monsters' fault that it's not anymore, and they need to remove them to bring the kingdom back to greatness — which should sound chillingly familiar to those who've studied fascist propaganda.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Hekapoo doesn't like working with Mina, especially since she's "not even following the plan".
Omnitraxus Prime: Some risks are worth taking.
    Hekapoo: But she's completely crazy!
  • Evil All Along: The entire Magic High Council is in league with Mina to overthrow Eclipsa.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Marco comes into Butterfly Castle right as the Magic High Commission send off Mina to attack Eclipsa.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: Hekapoo and Omnitraxus are secretly supporting Mina's attempt to dethrone Eclipsa by force. They even released Rhombulus after he endangered people in an attempt to frame Eclipsa, so either they changed their minds or the arrest was just a publicity stunt.
  • Fantastic Slurs: Rhombulus disgustedly calls Eclipsa "that monster-smoocher".
  • I Can Still Fight!: Even after he's wounded by the magic blade, Globgor still insists on trying to fight the giant armor, and it takes a lot of convincing to get him to take Meteora and go rest.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: Mina laughs at Hekapoo calling her crazy, then talks to Solaria's portrait as if it was a person.
  • Irony: The Solarian warriors were a product of Solaria's project on super soldiers, meant for fighting monsters. The episode ends with a Solarian warrior about to defeat (and possibly imprison and/or kill) Eclipsa, the daughter of the woman who made her what she is today.
  • Kryptonite Factor: Solarian blades are powerful anti-monster weapons, with a single cut neutralizing Globgor's Sizeshifter powers.
  • Laser Blade: Mina has armed the suit of armor with a Solarian blade, Eclipsa noting that said blades were created to be harmful to monsters. A single cut on his arm causes Globgor immense pain and neutralizes his size shifting abilities, knocking him out of the fight.
  • Militaries Are Useless: Mewni's knights fare even worse against the giant armor than Eclipsa and Globgor, simply rushing out and getting comically kicked around.
  • Ominous Crack: At the very end of the episode, Eclipsa's Deflector Shield starts to crack under the assaults of the giant armor.
  • Party Scattering: The Firstborn used a teleportation spell to get Star, Marco, Janna, and possibly Tom out of the Realm of Magic, but they all went to different places: Star went to the cabin where she keeps her first spell, Marco went to the lint catcher in Butterfly Castle, Janna went to Meteora's room in the Monster Temple, and Tom's whereabouts (if he's not still in the Realm) are unknown.
  • Power Nullifier: When the armor slashes Globgor with her giant Solarian Laser Blade, it neutralizes his size shifting power, and the wound causes him pain whenever he tries.
  • The Reveal: Hekapoo's warning to Marco to stay away from Mewni was because she knew Mina was going to attack. She fairly recently disabled the primary means of entry (and against her will), among other reasons, so that Marco couldn't come back.
  • So Last Season: Eclipsa's opening spell against the giant armor is "Black Velvet Inferno", the same spell that instantly took down Meteora. It barely even dents the Solarian Warrior.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Hekapoo isn't exactly happy to work with the completely insane Mina, and Mina has no problem pointing her Laser Blade at the Commission.
  • Teleport Interdiction: Hekapoo mentions the Magic High Commission were the ones who made the portals between worlds stop working.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Eclipsa outright confirms that the Solarians like Mina were driven mad by the power they gained.
  • Worf Had the Flu: While Globgor is an extremely powerful force, the armor is armed with a Solarian Laser Blade, which were specifically made to be harmful to monsters. Just by slashing his arm, Mina manages to neutralize his size shifting abilities and keep him out of the fight.
