A routine field trip for Anya's class is hijacked by a group of terrorists.

- Ambiguous Situation: The previous arc painted Melinda as an absentee mother who couldn't care less about Damian. Once the terrorists are apprehended and the threat ended, Melinda arrives to check on Damian and make everything far murkier. Based on Anya's glimpse into her mind, she does love Damian, but once Damian mentions his father, her mind becomes a scattered flurry of maternal affection and scathing contempt.
- Deus Exit Machina: The government suppresses the story of the bus hijacking, keeping Loid and Yor from stepping in to save their daughter. By the time they arrive, the situation has already been diffused.
- Tragic Villain: Billy Squire, the leader of the Red Circus. Once an ordinary civilian, his daughter was killed by the Ostanian government in a peaceful protest, leading him to take care in a terrorist organization.
