No Hat for Pat

Original air date: 7/19/2009 (produced in 2008)

Patrick gets a job as the Krusty Krab's falling-down comedian in order to get a Krusty Krab hat.

"No Hat for Pat" contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: Don't try to use someone's injuries for your advantage, it's not good for them.
  • Black Comedy Burst: After Patrick misdirects a guy into the Chum Bucket instead of the Krusty Krab, we soon see four guys carrying a coffin.
  • Break the Cutie: Happens to Patrick after Mr. Krabs fires him and taking away his hat. Luckily, SpongeBob cheers him up and allows him to wear his hat.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Turns out the hat Patrick got is what made him fall nonstop, as it somehow weighs him down.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: The Bikini Bottomites enjoy the pain and suffering of others so much that they would pay for it.
  • Hates Everyone Equally: Squidward utters this after watching the customers entertained by Patrick repeatedly falling down on his head.
Squidward: It's official. I hate everyone.
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: SpongeBob covers his eyes with two other fish's fins as Patrick prepares to jump into the bucket of sea urchins.
  • Jerkass: Mr. Krabs exploits Patrick's injuries for his own monetary gain.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Mr. Krabs gets the perfect comeuppance for exploiting Patrick's falling when he does not get hurt from the poison sea urchins after Squidward saves his fall, which angers the customers that they take all their money back.
  • Overly Long Gag: Patrick constantly falling down. It turns out in the end it's the hat that made him fall.
  • Pie in the Face: One of Patrick's stunts involves him falling facedown into a pie.
  • Sea Hurtchin: Patrick's last stunt involves him (and Squidward) falling into a bucket of spiny sea urchins.
  • Wingding Eyes: Mr. Krabs' eyes turn into mini-tourists when he realizes he can use Patrick standing around to attract customers.

Toy Store of Doom

Original air date: 3/17/2009 (produced in 2008)

SpongeBob and Patrick accidentally get locked in a new toy store overnight.

"Toy Store of Doom" contains examples of:

  • Big Shadow, Little Creature: After SpongeBob and Patrick suit up, a stranger comes marching from around the corner as its shadow is cast on the shelf, then the camera pans down to reveals it was just a little toy robot.
  • Brick Joke: Patrick at one point is shown winding up a toy robot; that same robot comes back to haunt SpongeBob and Patrick before it stops and Patrick rewinds it.
  • Cooldown Hug/Security Cling: SpongeBob and Patrick when they start crying after realizing the toy store is not open yet.
  • Dragged by the Collar: When the Toy Barrel closes for the night, a dad has to drag his son by his arm in order to get him out of the store. The boy runs to the toy he wants, but his dad pounces on him and continues to drag him.
  • Eye Scream: When SpongeBob and Patrick run out of the Toy Barrel after being stuck inside all night, their eyes are visibly smoking for no apparent reason.
  • Get Out!: When Squidward finds SpongeBob and Patrick in his house:
SpongeBob: Hi, Squidward. Can you think of anything fun we can do?
    Squidward: Get out!
Patrick: We hadn't thought of that one.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: The Barnacle Boy action figure, which is all chewed up and slimy.
  • Manchild: SpongeBob and Patrick are adults living on their own, but take large interest in toys and are scared of the dark.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: SpongeBob in a pink tutu, which he says is a "man-tu" because it has "extra support".
  • Shout-Out:
    • When SpongeBob and Patrick prepare to fight back, they dress up like Rambo.
    • Both of them hiding in the toy house while waiting for the store to close is possibly a reference to Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
  • Small Name, Big Ego:
SpongeBob: It was nice knowing you...pal.
Patrick: I know. I'm an interesting guy.

This isn't a tutu, it's a man-tu. You can tell because it has EXTRA SUPPORT!
