Banned in Bikini Bottom

Krabby Patties are banned from Bikini Bottom.

"Banned in Bikini Bottom" contains examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: "Did you just call me 'Squidwart'?"
  • Artistic License – Law Enforcement: A group of Moral Guardians ban Krabby Patties for being "fun and delicious" (the episode was a parody on prohibition). You don't need to go to law school to know that is not possible even if your husband is the chief of police. The job of the police is to enforce laws, not make them.
  • Big "NO!": SpongeBob does this when Mr. Krabs threatens to make him take weekends off if he doesn't get back to work.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Plankton sees the closed label on the Krusty Krab sign, he thinks Krabs changed the name to "The Closed Krab", and anticipates everyone thinking it's closed so they'll come to the Chum Bucket instead. Karen then informs him that the Krusty Krab is closed because Miss Gristlepuss banned Krabby Patties.
  • Eaten Alive: Plankton at the end.
  • Everybody Knew Already: After the Krusty Krab is closed, Mr. Krabs converts SpongeBob's home into a secret Krusty Krab...complete with a sign advertising it as such.
  • Failed a Spot Check: When Mr. Krabs is scanning the secret Krusty Krab for any police, he strangely doesn't notice Plankton despite the fact he entered the same room at the same time.
  • Fun-Hating Villain: Miss Gristlepuss. How bad is she? She runs an entire organization that bans items deemed "too fun and delicious."
  • Fun with Acronyms: T.U.O.O.F.A.T.T.A.F.A.D. (The United Organization of Fish Against Things That Are Fun and Delicious)
  • Gilligan Cut: After Ms. Gristlepuss bans Krabby Patties and orders the Krusty Krab to be closed down:
Mr. Krabs: She can't close us down.
(cut to SpongeBob, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs outside the Krusty Krab, which is now chained up with a "Closed" sign over the logo)
Mr. Krabs: She closed us down! I'm ruined! (cries)
  • Heel–Face Turn: Ms. Gristlepuss has Krabby Patties banned for being too fun and delicious. Once she accidentally eats the patty Al was eating and likes it, she lifts the ban and claims she's a kinder, gentler fish by then.
  • Hot Guy, Ugly Wife: Ms. Gristlepuss is an old lady; her husband Al is young and muscular.
  • House Amnesia: While setting up the secret Krusty Krab, SpongeBob startles Mr. Krabs, who tells SpongeBob that people usually knock before entering somebody's house...only for SpongeBob to tell him that it's his house.
  • I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham: Ms. Gristlepuss hates Krabby Patties until she finally tries one.
  • Ironic Echo: After Ms. Gristlepuss declares Krabby Patties to be too fun, Krabs says to SpongeBob that she can't close them down. Cut to Krabs, SpongeBob, and Squidward standing outside a closed Krusty Krab, with Mr. Krabs shouting, "She closed us down!"
  • Metaphorgotten:
SpongeBob: If Krabby Patties are illegal now, aren't we breaking the law?
Mr. Krabs: There's an old saying, lad. What doesn't kill ya... usually succeeds in the second attempt.
SpongeBob: But what does that have to do with making Krabby Patties?
    Mr. Krabs: Nothing!
  • Moral Guardians: Parodied with Miss Gristlepuss and T.U.O.O.F.A.T.T.A.F.A.D., who ban things because they're fun and delicious.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: It's SpongeBob singing his "I Love Krabby Patties" song that makes Miss Gristlepuss shut down the Krusty Krab.
  • Ode to Food: A Running Gag throughout the episode is SpongeBob singing about how much he loves Krabby Patties. Later reprised by Miss Gristlepuss after she tries her first Krabby Patty.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: Despite helping Ms. Gristlepuss to ban the Krabby Patties and close the Krusty Krab, Al still eats them.
  • Special Guest: Andrea Martin as Miss Gristlepuss.
  • Stage Whisper: Patrick does this to the customers leaving SpongeBob's house with a very audible "Thank you, come again."
  • Stalker Shot: Plankton does this twice; first from SpongeBob's kitchen watching Mr. Krabs, and again from inside a Krabby Patty when the cops burst into the Secret Krusty Krab.
  • The End: The episode ends with this.
  • The Stool Pigeon: After discovering the secret Krusty Krab at SpongeBob's house, Plankton becomes a Petty Peter when he reports this to the police to get it shut down.
  • Trust Password: While guarding the door, Patrick asks the person at the front for the password. Based on his interaction with Plankton, he believes it's "What are you talking about, you gargantuan buffoon?", indicating that everybody he has asked has said that and there wasn't supposed to be a password.
  • Unknown Rival:
  • Visual Pun: Lampshaded by Plankton when Mr. Krabs is sitting under a table as the secret Krusty Krab is in business, with Plankton noting that Krabs was operating "under the table".
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: Upon hearing from Karen that Ms. Gristlepuss shut down the Krusty Krab, Plankton considered it a victory by "default", which he was happy with.

Stanley S. SquarePants

SpongeBob's klutzy cousin visits and causes trouble.

"Stanley S. SquarePants" contains examples of:

  • Big "NO!": SpongeBob does this when he sees that Stanley broke his spatula.
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor:
Stanley: Wow! A TV! Uncle Sherm never let me watch TV back at home.
SpongeBob: Why not? *The TV explodes*
Stanley: That's why. *runs off* What's that?
SpongeBob: Oh, it's okay. There's nothing good on television anyway. (turns to camera and frowns) Nothing.
  • Bridal Carry: A picture depicts Stanley doing this to a customer.
  • Dragged into Drag: Stanley takes a mock wedding photo with a male customer as the bride, much to the latter's annoyance.
  • Epic Fail: Stanley can only do this. He is utterly incapable of doing anything right to the degree where he breaks SpongeBob's TV just by lightly touching it, and he can't even sit still and do nothing without screwing it up.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: After learning that Stanley destroys everything he touches, Mr. Krabs gets an idea and sends him off to work at the Chum Bucket. The next day, it blows up.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: On the letter that SpongeBob reads from Uncle Sherm, the last part of the letter that he doesn't read out loud is "I'm free, FREE!"
  • The Jinx: Stanley ruins everything he touches and drives whoever he meets crazy.
  • Mini-Me: Mr. Krab’s nephews look just like him, but smaller.
  • Nephewism: Mr. Krabs reveals he has identical triplet nephews who solve mysteries, whom he tells to go solve the "mystery" of why they didn't get hired at the Krusty Krab.
  • Pet the Dog: Mr. Krabs gets irritated and lectures SpongeBob whenever he screws up, but when SpongeBob appears to have broken his spatula, Mr. Krabs speaks more gently, shows sympathy and says he'll get another one for him tomorrow. This is the last straw for SpongeBob.
  • Post-Support Regret: Spongebob takes pity on his unlucky cousin and takes the fall for all his screw-ups at the Krusty Krab so Stanley doesn’t get fired. But he loses his patience when Stanley breaks his most prized possession and tells Mr. Krabs the truth. This however, gave Mr Krabs an idea, one that would be enough for Spongebob to overlook all the bad antics he caused.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After taking the blame for all of Stanley's screw-ups, SpongeBob finally loses his patience when Stanley bends his spatula in half.
Mr. Krabs: Oh... you broke your spatula... That's a shame... I'll order you another one tomorrow, boy.
SpongeBob: NO! NO! NO! I DIDN'T BREAK MY SPATULA!!! (points at Stanley) HE DID!!! AND I ALSO DIDN'T BURN YOUR MONEY!!! HE DID THAT TOO!!! I HAVE BEEN COVERING FOR HIM BECAUSE HE CAN'T DO ANYTHING RIGHT!!!
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Upon meeting SpongeBob's cousin, Stanley, Squidward shouts, "There's two of them?!" and immediately moves out of his house, screaming in terror.
  • Shameful Shrinking: SpongeBob does this when Mr. Krabs yells at him thinking he may have lied just so Stanley could get the job at the Krusty Krab.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When Stanley changes the channels on the television, a parody of Rocky and Bullwinkle appears.
    • Mr. Krabs's nephews are based on Donald Duck's nephews, and them solving mysteries is a parody of Ducktales.
  • Special Guest: Christopher Guest as Stanley S. SquarePants.
