The Big Bad Bubble Bass

Original air date: 5/6/2022 (produced in 2021)

In a Fairy Tale Episode narrated by Karen, Bubble Bass just needs one more action figure to complete his collection: Pigulon. SpongeBob and Patrick end up buying the last one, leading Bubble Bass to try stealing it from them.

Tropes present in the episode:

  • Accidental Truth: Bubble Bass claims to be a ghost hunter, needing to take SpongeBob and Patrick's Pigulon figure to inspect it. His ghost detector goes off, so SpongeBob and Patrick legitimately exorcise it. A ghost pig appears from the figure and captures Bubble Bass.
  • All for Nothing: Bubble Bass endures an entire episode of harebrained schemes to get the last Pigulon, only for it to already be broken thanks to SpongeBob and Patrick.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: After finding out Bubble Bass lied to her, his mother belches at him and blows away his clothes, leaving him in only his underwear, much to his horror.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: If Bubble Bass had just went to the store and not waste time putting on a costume, he never would’ve had to go through all that he did to try to get Pigulon.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: SpongeBob whistles the last few notes of the theme song on his nose, which is one of the ways he opens the vault.
  • Fairy Tale Episode: Bubble Bass plays the role of the Big Bad Wolf, wanting to steal the Pigulon action figure that SpongeBob and Patrick bought. When his attempts fail, he blows their houses down (by drinking soda and burping), with Squidward's house being the strongest.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: In order to belch down Patrick's rock, Bubble Bass drinks hot sauce along with fizz bomb, resulting in this.
  • Gasshole: Bubble Bass drinks fizz bomb cola and belches down SpongeBob and Patrick's houses. His mother is even worse to the point where she doesn't even need to drink fizz bomb to belch down Squidward's house.
  • Jaw Drop: Bubble Bass's jaw hits the floor when it turns out the Pigulon toy really is possessed by a ghost.
  • Mama Bear: After being told by Bubble Bass that SpongeBob and Patrick took his toy, his mother drives them to Squidward's house and destroys it to get it back.
  • Ocular Gushers: Bubble Bass does this after finally getting the Pigulon toy, only for it to be broken thanks to SpongeBob and Patrick.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Bubble Bass does this when he sees Patrick bite the packaging off the Pigulon toy.
  • Sequel Episode: To "Patnocchio". Both episodes are about Karen narrating a fairy tale.
  • Shout-Out: SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward wear the same outfits as the three pigs in the Disney short.
  • Storybook Opening: The episode begins on one.
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: Bubble Bass doesn’t do anything evil, but he’s still so lazy, hedonistic and selfish that he earns every single bit of karma he suffers throughout the episode, and it’s absolutely hilarious.

Sea-Man Sponge Haters Club

Original air date: 5/6/2022 (produced in 2021)

Mrs. Puff, Plankton, Bubble Bass, and the mailman all attend a meeting of the "We Hate SpongeBob Club" at Squidward's house. Each tells their personal encounter with SpongeBob: he ruined Mrs. Puff's driving lesson and Bubble Bass's meal, and then locked Plankton and Karen out of the Chum Bucket. Afterwards, Squidward is displeased when SpongeBob shows up at the club for real, convinced that he'll do something annoying.

Tropes present in the episode:

  • Art Shift: Mrs. Puff's story. At first, she's in a Sugar Bowl world, awarding her license to an Adorably Precocious Child. When SpongeBob shows up, he's drawn in a much creepier and grotesque style. This escalates into straight-out Deranged Animation, with SpongeBob turning into an insane Rat Fink lookalike.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: SpongeBob offers the club pineapple punch, which he says is homemade- as in made from the walls of his pineapple home.
  • Conspicuous Trenchcoat: Bubble Bass, Plankton, Norton, and Mrs. Puff arrive at Squidward's house wearing trenchcoats, fedoras, and sunglasses. But SpongeBob immediately recognizes them.
  • Framing Device: Most of the episode consists of stories told by the club members over their dislike of SpongeBob and how they see him.
  • Hypocrite: The motto of the club is that nobody means SpongeBob any harm, they just can’t stand him. This ironically is the rule of a club made up almost entirely of people who have tried to harm him in one way or another over the run of the series, unless you interpret it as the group collectively going through Character Development since the below instances.
    • Mrs. Puff infamously tried to kill SpongeBob after he punctured her bloat sac in “Demolition Doofus”.
    • In his debut episode "Pickles", Bubble Bass sadistically went out of his way to mentally torment SpongeBob by claiming he made a mistake with his order, which he specifically did to try to run him out of his job.
    • Squidward has more than once allowed his hatred of SpongeBob to drive him to try to harm him, even if it’s Played for Laughs like at the end of “Opposite Day”.
    • Norton angrily shoved SpongeBob into a mailbox and closes it on him in "Pat the Horse". In this episode, even after taking the pledge, he puts a package in his mouth and kicks him.
    • Plankton, who is the nominal Big Bad of the series, needs no further clarification.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Well, Spongetarian. When SpongeBob goes down his gullet, Bubble Bass comments that he doesn’t taste too bad, implying that he’d have been happy if he stayed there.
  • Noodle Incident: The mailman is the only character who doesn't tell a full story. All we get is a snippet of his at the end, where his encounter with SpongeBob apparently led to the mailman "coughing up mail for weeks".
  • Not Me This Time: Bubble Bass usually earns the awful things that happen to him due to being a lazy, gluttonous jerk and has caused more than his fair share of incidents at the Krusty Krab. This time, however, he was only trying to eat his meal but SpongeBob refused to let him eat any of it due to getting too hung up on perfectionism.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: When SpongeBob interrupts the club, he doesn't seem aware of what it's for, and compliments all the members. Even though Squidward's house ends up destroyed, SpongeBob still lets them hold the We Hate SpongeBob Club in his house; he happily participates and even serves some snacks.
  • Pet the Dog: As leader and founder of the club, Squidward had the motto spell out that while they hate SpongeBob, they don’t mean him any actual harm or malice.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is a reference to "The He-Man Woman Haters Club" from The Little Rascals.
  • The Perfectionist: SpongeBob in Bubble Bass's story. He repeatedly takes away parts of Bubble Bass's huge meal once he notices incredibly minor flaws, leaving him with nothing to eat.
  • Swallowed Whole: SpongeBob jumps into Bubble Bass's mouth to prevent him from eating an imperfect Krabby Patty. Bubble Bass actually notes that he doesn't taste bad. SpongeBob then appears through his belly button.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Zig-zagged. Squidward's story, which we witness in real time, shows that SpongeBob is as annoying as everyone says. Bubble Bass and the mailman's stories genuinely did happen, as we see the lasting effects of them. Plankton claims that he was working on an invention to help society when he was actually trying to blow up the town, implying that he was lying to make himself look better, but the rest of the story did seem to happen. Mrs. Puff's story is the hardest to deduce, as the Art Shift makes it seem like exaggeration, but we have seen SpongeBob destroy Boating School before and, when he enters the club, he says "I can't wait until my next lesson!"
  • Villainous Glutton: Bubble Bass refers to his meal that SpongeBob ruined as a “light snack between first and second lunch”, and it’s a massive stack of food nearly as tall as the little fry cook himself. When he does successfully eat one Krabby Patty, Bubble Bass holds his belly and cackles happily, THAT happy he’s finally eaten something.
  • Wingding Eyes: As his real-time story is about to begin, Squidward's eyes turn into numbers that count down from 3.
