While making a delivery, SpongeBob and Plankton get stranded on an island inhabited by deadly monsters and must work together to survive.

    Plankton: SpongeBob?
    SpongeBob: Yes, Plankton?

    SpongeBob: Yup, I can't decide either. Do the company sports jerseys look better in beige or green?
  • Balloonacy: How SpongeBob and Plankton end up stranded. When SpongeBob is about to make his delivery, the paper bag he’s carrying gets blown up into a giant balloon by a gust of wind. This gets him airborne and the currents ultimately take him to the titular island.
  • Brick Joke: The beginning of the episode has Patrick trying to figure out what he wants to order at the Krusty Krab, with his head catching on fire. When SpongeBob returns to the Krusty Krab at the end, Patrick is still there, and his head is still on fire.
  • Cub Cues Protective Parent: When SpongeBob and Plankton try to eat a banana from a tree, it turns out to be sentient and the baby of a banana monster that peels SpongeBob like a banana.
  • Enemy Mine: SpongeBob and Plankton have to team up to survive on Monster Island.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: After discovering the monsters love coconuts, SpongeBob and Plankton open up a restaurant that sells coconut patties in order to keep the monsters from eating them.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: After their little shelter explodes, SpongeBob and Plankton get impaled on massive thorns that jut through their bodies (in Plankton's case, his eye socket). They shake it off like it's no big deal.
  • Isle of Giant Horrors: The episode centers on SpongeBob and Plankton getting stuck on an island with various giant monsters.
  • Off with His Head!: Happens to Plankton after escaping the snail monster.
  • Perma-Stubble: SpongeBob and Plankton get this the more hungry they get. It's gone after they work at the Coco Hut.
  • Pet the Dog: When the giant turtle monster approaches the Krusty Krab and Mr. Krabs orders everyone to evacuate, Squidward goes out of his way to move Patrick outside to safety.
  • That's No Moon: Twice.
    • SpongeBob and Plankton try to take shelter in a cave, only to realize that they're inside a giant snail monster's mouth.
    • Desperate for food, SpongeBob and Plankton try to eat a rock, only to turn out it's the top of a monster.
  • Turtle Island: Monster Island turns out to be on the back of a giant turtle monster.
  • Wham Line: Things seem to be going well for SpongeBob and Plankton when they manage to escape the island, until SpongeBob notices something behind them...
    SpongeBob: Wait, why are we heading back to the island?
    (the island starts approaching SpongeBob and Plankton, revealing itself to be part of the back of a giant turtle monster)
    Plankton: I think the island is heading back to us!
  • X Days Since: It's revealed at the end that Squidward has been keeping a sign that reads "Days without SpongeBob". When SpongeBob returns, Squidward erases "2192".

SpongeBob teaches Patrick how to ride a bike.

"Ride Patrick Ride" contains examples of:

  • All Just a Dream: Everything after Patrick rides down Dead Man's Hill is a dream he had after crashing down Dead Man Hill and ending up in a coma.
  • Asleep for Days After crashing down Dead Man's Hill, Patrick ended up in a six-week coma.
  • The Bus Came Back: The octopus mother and her children from "Sailor Mouth" appear as one of the people Patrick crashes into.
  • Epic Fail: Patrick's attempts at even sitting on a bicycle.
  • Exact Words: When pushing Patrick on a bicycle, SpongeBob promises not to let go of the bike. When Patrick looks back, he sees SpongeBob's detached arms still holding the back of the bike, to which SpongeBob yells, he's still holding on. Patrick still crashes.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: After SpongeBob successfully makes Patrick forget about everything except riding a bike, SpongeBob tells Patrick to have fun, causing the word fun to enter Patrick's brain, pushing out the memory of how to ride a bike.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is a reference to Blues Image song "Ride Captain Ride".
