Recap / Sonic Boom S 3 E 46 Lair On Lockdown

Go To

Dr. Eggman has created the most unspeakable form of evil yet: he's opened an online ticket-selling business and is overcharging his customers on convenience and shipping fees. Sonic and his friends arrive to lodge a complaint over their recent purchase of tickets to Koalapalooza and soon get into a fight with the usual robot mooks. During the battle, a stray piece of robot hits Eggman's control console and activates the lair's occupant-sorting protocols. As everybody gets sucked into tubes and thrown throughout the lair, Sonic manages to disengage the protocol, but the lair is then put under lockdown for 48 hours. Force-fields lock all the doors, leaving Sonic trapped with Cubot in the control room.

Tails and Amy land in the lair basement and find that the force-fields blocking the doors are scrambling their communicators. As they tidy up on Amy's insistence, they find several drums of radioactive moo-tonium and get understandably nervous. Sticks and Orbot land in the living room, where Orbot's attempts to provide casual talk gets Sticks's paranoid nature all riled up. Knuckles and Eggman are trapped in a closet, where they find a wide assortment of random knick-knacks from their previous adventures. Back in the control room, Sonic tries to figure out the password to Eggman's computer, but all of his best guesses continue to come up wrong and he wonders why Eggman couldn't have picked something cool like "chili dog". His random guess ends up being correct, except now Sonic has no idea which functions on the computer do what.

Sticks and Orbot manage to find an air vent and try to climb up into it, but the air current is too strong and so Sticks shuts it off by pulling all the wires from a console. When Tails sees that the air has stopped, he panics as the moo-tonium will explode if not kept cool. Sticks and Orbot follow the vent to the basement where Tails and Amy try desperately to fan the moo-tonium and keep it from exploding. In the closet, Eggman finds his very first robot Zippy, a tiny little toy that can only communicate by beeping in Morse code. This gives Eggman an idea and he taps on the wall with a wrench to communicate with Orbot in the adjoining room on how to disengage the lockdown. Tails in turn relays the message to Sonic and Cubot as they (mostly) hit the correct switches. Working together, everybody is able to shut off the lockdown and escape before the moo-tonium explodes and destroys the entire lair.

As Eggman laments over his destroyed lair, Knuckles cheers him up by giving him Zippy, having been rescued during the escape. Eggman shows his gratitude by offering Knuckles 4% off his next ticket purchase (not to be combined with any other offer).

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Eggman continues his habit of misnaming Knuckles, which originated in "The Meteor". He calls Knuckles "Noodles", "Nickels", and "Knuffles".
  • Bottle Episode: This episode takes place in Dr. Eggman's lair, which is under lockdown.
  • Call-Back:
    • Amy and Tails find barrels of radioactive moo-tonium, which Eggman used on Cowbot in the episode of the same name.
    • When Eggman shows Knuckles his collection of failed experiments, among them are one of the tomato sauce can robots from "Dr. Eggman's Tomato Sauce" and the head of Swifty the Shrew from "Blue With Envy".
    • Knuckles finds Zippy, Eggman's first robot, who was previously unseen but mentioned in "Robot Battle Royale".
  • Evil Is Petty: Eggman's evil plan for this episode is... an online ticket-selling business that adds unnecessary fees.
  • Noodle Incident: One of the things Dr. Eggman shows Knuckles is a dinosaur egg from when they went back in time, which has not been made into an episode as of yet.
Knuckles: Who could forget that classic adventure?
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish": The password for Eggman's computer is "Chili Dog".
  • The Reveal: Zippy, Eggman's first robot, who was previously mentioned in "Robot Battle Royale", appears in this episode.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: After entering the final password to open the doors again, Sonic panics when nothing happens. Cubot suggests that maybe he left Caps Lock on. Sonic gets annoyed with such a suggestion... then checks the keyboard and immediately notices that he did.
Sonic: Whelp, found the problem... completely UN-Caps Lock related.
  • Trash the Set: Eggman's lair gets destroyed thanks to the radioactive moo-tonium. Fortunately, everyone evacuates the lair before it blows up.
