Recap / Sonic Boom S 3 E 45 Three Minutes Or Less

Go To

The episode starts with Sonic and company at Amy's house watching TV. Sonic comments on some things, when a commercial for Meh Burger announces that it now delivers. Sonic is interested and decides to order for his friends, but the order takes too long, even to the point where Sonic thumb-wrestles Knuckles. The order finally arrives and Sonic criticizes Dave. Sonic finds that Meh Burger is reviewing their service via the back of a card.

At Meh Burger, Sonic criticizes Meh Burger's service, and jokes that he can do it in three minutes or less. This cues Mr. Slate to peek in from the right. "THREE MINUTES?!" yells Mr. Slate. He states that if Sonic can do it in three minutes, he has got himself a job. Sonic is uninterested, but when Mr. Slate offers a position in fast delivery, Sonic is willing to take on a challenge.

Sonic is tasked to deliver the meals via a uniform in which Sonic wears with pride, the order is made, and Sonic gets it done in no time at all. Sonic reveals that he even got a tip, and Sonic is rewarded a chili dog. Sonic goes around making deliveries one after another (save for one who takes it slow to find his wallet) when Sonic ends up in Amy's house who prepared the house for Sonic. Sonic eats it fast and leaves. Continued successful deliveries are made, and Sonic prepares some chili dogs again. Sonic can't notice anything going wrong...

...but he spoke too soon, as Eggman's Lair is the next scene we are taken to. Eggman is ready to watch some TV, when he notices Sonic on TV on a commercial with one of the Stunt Bears somehow involved. Eggman decides "screw it" and decides to go for a Meh Burger. Eggman is excited to see if Sonic is late and he gets it free. Sonic arrives at Eggman's Lair, and Sonic made it in time despite Eggman's order being not done yet, getting pickles, mayo, and ketchup (even a full cart).

Sonic is back at Meh Burger and goes through another delivery. Eggman is there too, and Sonic catches Eggman after the evil scientist attempts a prank. Back at his lair after paying Sonic, Eggman plans a complicated plan of attack on Sonic while he does deliveries, claiming that poems and songs will be made on how Eggman defeated Sonic. He plans to attack when he leaves Meh Burger, and if Sonic does not make it, Eggman gets his meal for free.

Sonic is tasked with deliveries around three different areas around the whole entire island in three minutes, which shocks Dave. Sonic says that he has it under control. The moment he leaves, Eggman first has an army of Crab Bots and Bee Bots. Sonic throws the deliveries and jumps over two Crab Bots which explode on collision. Two Bee Bots open fire, but Sonic dodges. It's Eggman's turn to fire, but Sonic dodges that as well as two more Crab Bots ram into each other and explode. Sonic catches the deliveries, but a Crab Bot gets in the way, but Knuckles comes in with his team. "Don't worry, Sonic," says Knuckles. "We'll fight this enemy attack! You do the noble thing and deliver that greasy food to people who don't feel like leaving their homes!" Knuckles and the others fight the Badniks, and Sonic races off with Eggman on his tail. Eggman crashes, and Sonic delivers the food successfully, which happens to be the Gogobas. Sonic leaves after some time, but Eggman takes some people hostage with Obliterator Bot assisting. "Really, Egghead? Taking prisoners now," says Sonic in disbelief. Sonic is determined to make it in three minutes or less. Sonic and Eggman rush at each other and Sonic jumps over Eggman. Eggman misses his laser shot, but Sonic shoots mayo successfully, which the mayo splatters on the Eggmobile's windshield, which Eggman despises it happening right after he gets it washed. While wiping it off, he accidentally hits the controls and accidentally shoots Obliterator Bot. Sonic frees the prisoners and runs off.

Sonic arrives at something with Eggman's symbol on it. But it turns out to be Cubot who was distracting Sonic, and he has one more delivery to Eggman's Lair. But it all comes down to this when Sonic is faced with a Boss Rush of every single robot Sonic confronted in the past. Eggman announces that it's one minute until the deadline, and if Sonic cannot make it past the robots and infiltrate the lair’s defenses, Eggman will get the meal for free. Sonic comments that it will be easy and begins battling the Boss Rush. Sonic destroys two Moto Bugs, and then kicks Burnbot away. Sonic proceeds to take out a Scorpion Bot, a Crab Bot, and a Bee Bot before ducking to dodge Octopus Bot and Cowbot who charge at Sonic. Sonic takes both out (with Cowbot's destruction again ignoring the compound inside Cowbot) and takes out another Bee Bot in the process. The Mega moves in, but Sonic dodges and runs on the arm to get past it. He takes out a Mantis Bot before running with a Crab Bot right behind Sonic. As Sonic dodges lasers, he wonders how he is going to get in the base as Eggman laughs. As Sonic effortlessly takes out another Mantis Bot, Sonic finds Orbot and Cubot going through the secret door, as Sonic gets an idea.

Eggman is excited for his victory, but Sonic is here with one second to spare as time expires. Eggman can't believe it; not even the Boss Rush could stop Sonic. Sonic reveals that he followed Orbot and Cubot, which Eggman gets mad at Orbot and Cubot for missing the point of the Boss Rush outside, and Eggman pays Sonic.

Sonic makes it back to Meh Burger and Mr. Slate is impressed. He rewards Sonic with a ten chili dog bonus. Sonic realizes that it was a bad idea and quits, which impresses Dave as the episode ends with a Meh Burger commercial.

This episode provides examples of:

  • 30 Minutes, or It's Free!: Sonic's joke that he could deliver anywhere on the island in three minutes or less becomes Meh Burger's newest promotion for delivery.
  • Big "NO!": Eggman in response to Sonic making the last delivery with one second to spare.
  • Call-Back:
    • As Sonic waits for the food he ordered from Meh Burger to arrive, the radio broadcast saying that the Bike Chain Bandit from "Planes, Trains, and Dude-Mobiles" has escaped can be heard.
    • Meh Burger still has the Robot Employee they got from Tails in "Robot Employees".
    • The Councilman McMeh mascot, who previously appeared in toy form in the episodes, "Knuck Knuck! Who's here?" and "Mombot" appears in the commercial where Sonic guarantees delivery in three minutes or less, or your order is free.
  • The Cavalry: When Eggman sends an army of Badniks to make Sonic late for his deliveries, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy battle the badniks so Sonic can proceed with his deliveries.
  • Didn't Think This Through: As Sonic battles Eggman's badnik army, he looks for another entrance into Eggman's lair. He follows Orbot and Cubot through the secret tunnel, which they had to enter so they wouldn't get caught in the crossfire of the battle.
  • Evil Is Petty: Eggman's evil plan for this episode is... making Sonic late for his deliveries so he don't have to pay for them.
  • Grammar Correction Gag: When Sonic comes across Eggman, who has captured Fastidious Beaver and Leroy the Turtle, Sonic vows to Eggman that he will still deliver his food in three minutes or less. Fastidious points out that it should be, "Three Minutes or Fewer".
  • Hope Spot: Just as Eggman celebrates finally getting one over on Sonic, the hedgehog makes the delivery with one second to spare.
  • Mundane Utility:
    • Sonic uses his super speed to deliver fast food in three minutes or fewer.
    • Eggman uses the full might of his robotic army to prevent Sonic from making a successful delivery and denying him a free chili dog. In the case of the final onslaught, it's also to get himself a free meal.
  • Poke the Poodle: Eggman tries to get the better of Sonic with a prank order. Sonic sees through that quickly enough, but Eggman still has to pay up because he was sitting at Meh Burger giggling the whole time over this trick.
  • Ship Tease: Amy uses the delivery system to effectively ask Sonic on a date but sadly Sonic has to rush it for his job, leaving a disappointed Amy. Also, before Amy clarified who the food was for, Sonic was noticeably jealous.
  • Shout-Out: Sonic's increasingly frustrated knocking is met with Cubot saying, "Sonic's not here, man."
  • Status Quo Is God: Sonic gets paid a chili dog for each successful delivery he makes. By the end of the episode, he has eaten so many, he gets a stomachache, and thus quits.
  • Take That!: Mr. Slate scoffs at paying Sonic money, saying there's no reason a hugely successful fast food corporation should have to pay employees a living wage. He then offers the free chili dog per delivery option, calling Sonic a sucker for agreeing.
