Tropes

  • An Aesop:
    • People aren't always who they appear to be.
    • If you get a bad feeling about something or someone, it's important to trust your instincts.
  • The Dissenter Is Always Right: While most of the royal family took an instant liking to Sascha, Sofia did not and felt suspicious of her behavior, knowing she looked familiar. Turns out, Sascha was Miss Nettle in disguise, and was only using her act to steal her amulet.
  • Eyes Never Lie: Miss Nettle's eye shape and color are the only attribute that does not change when in her Sascha persona.
  • Freudian Slip: Cedric almost lets slip to Sofia he wants her amulet as much as Miss Nettle.
Sofia: Cedric! You've got to come quick! We have a magical emergency!
Cedric: Well, then I suppose you should ask a real sorcerer like Sascha.
Sofia: She's not a sorceress; she's Miss Nettle!
    Cedric: Who?
Sofia: An evil fairy! She's after my amulet!
Cedric: What?! No one can have that amulet but me! — I mean... you, princess.
  • I Meant to Do That: When Cedric botches up his spell to conjure up the feast, he claims that it's part of a joke before his main act.
  • I Gave My Word: When Sascha asks Sofia to trade her amulet for a magnificent ruby necklace, Sofia refuses and lets in on her solemn promise she made to Roland to never take it off; thus Amber takes the necklace instead.
  • Internal Reveal: The audience sees Miss Nettle disguising herself as Sascha the Sorceress before she infiltrates the castle, but while Sofia has her suspicions, she doesn't know it until Miss Nettle reveals herself after locking away the royal family in the dining hall.
  • Only Sane Man: Only Sofia knew that something was up with "Sascha".
  • Properly Paranoid: Sofia becomes this throughout the episode, feeling suspicious about Sascha as she seems "familiar" and having known her from someplace. Turns out her suspicions were correct — Sascha was Miss Nettle in disguise.
  • Running Gagged: Sofia pronouncing Cedric's name as "Ceedric" has finally ended, and Cedric was surprised to hear Sofia got it right at last.
    Sofia: Hi, Mr. Cedric.
Cedric: It's Seh-dri — wait... you got it right!
    Sofia: Got what right?
    Cedric: My name!
Sofia: Mr. Cedric, was I saying it wrong before?
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Clover reluctantly teams up with Wormwood in order to get to Cedric's tower and retrieve a spare wand for him, since his old wand was jammed with magic crystals by Miss Nettle.
  • Tempting Fate: After Sofia tells her family that "Sascha" wasn't what she appeared to be, Amber is happy that she at least got to keep the bracelets "Sascha" gave her only for the bracelets to disappear.
  • Villain Song: "All You Desire", sung by Sascha (Miss Nettle in disguise) as she demonstrates her wish-granting ability to the family.
  • We Will Meet Again: After being defeated and escaping, Miss Nettle promises Rosy that Sofia and the Royal Family have not seen the last of her.
