Who Violently Murdered Simon S. Salty?

Original air date: 1/10/2022 (produced in 2021)

After learning about his favorite fast food restaurant, "Salty's", iconic dangerously unhealthy, yet delectable menu has been changed for healthy, but unappetizing food, an enraged Charlie decides to speak with Simon himself, only to find out that he was murdered. And with the police unable to help due to budget cuts, he and Pim are put in charge of this epic murder mystery, with the restaurants mascots themselves as the suspects!

In Memoriam Gag: Simon S. Salty (1945-2022)

Who Violently Murdered Simon S. Salty? contains examples of...

  • Asshole Victim: It's hard to say that Simon's death isn't entirely unjustified, given that he mocks the 15 deaths his restaurants menu has caused and the FDA for taking rightful action against him and his restaurant. It turns out that he wasn't murdered at all and simply died from a heart attack due to eating one of his own burgers.
  • Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie: Century Egg lets the Smiling Friends view his security tapes on the condition that they bury his body in his hometown, the Xiang Pine Forest in China. Charlie assures him that "Oh, yeah, we will definitely go to China to bury you, man." They do. Then Pim mentions that he's never tried a century egg before, so Charlie grabs the shovel again...
  • Character Death: Two. Interestingly, this is the only episode this season where the deaths are of natural causes.
    • Simon S. Salty's death is shown in the security footage; he died of a heart attack.
    • The Century Egg dies of old age.
  • Femme Fatale: Mustard, cause every murder mystery needs one.
  • Everybody Did It: Subverted. It turns out that the Mascots were actually attacking Simon's corpse the entire time and mistook him for taking a nap instead of being dead.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: Parodied. Charlie and Pim share a laugh over the episode's resolution, namely the now free unstable mascots terrorizing the populace.
  • Karma Houdini: Despite the fact that they all still tried to kill him, the murderously psychopathic Salty mascots are convinced they are acquitted upon the reveal that Salty had already died due to a heart attack, and run free out of the restaurant to cause havoc in the streets before Charlie can explain that they aren't actually innocent, with him and Pim not doing anything about it.
  • Moral Luck: Subverted; it's discovered none of the mascots who attempted to murder Salty technically did so, because he was already dead, but Charlie points out they still committed crimes—not that they listen.
  • Older Than They Look: According to the In Memoriam Gag, Simon S. Salty is 77 years old despite looking like a sloppy guy in his forties.
  • Police Are Useless: After seeing Simon S. Salty's corpse in his restaurant, Charlie and Pim do the natural thing and call the police to investigate his murder. The police don't even bother checking out the scene of the crime, blaming it on budget cuts.
  • Show Within a Show: Bimblar Unleashed, the movie that Charlie and Pim are introduced as having just finished watching a screening of. Pim liked it, Charlie didn't.
  • Sincerity Mode: Turns out Charlie meant it when he seemingly-sarcastically promised to bury the Century Egg in China.
  • Stylistic Suck:
    • Simon S. Salty's infomercial is very, very messily-edited. His integration as a live-action character is also far from convincing, especially his unnatural body movements.
    • The Fun Twin's story is done in the style of a shoddy and rapid flash animation.
  • Tears of Blood: Ketchup cries...ketchup instead of regular tears.
