This time, Kaos is not messing around.

Written by: Eric Rogers

Kaos has now met Strykore, who claims to be his father and offers Kaos more power than he has ever had before. He also tells him of how Kaossandra was the one to banish him to his prison inside her book of spells, which puts Kaos' relationship with his mother on ice. Meanwhile, after leaving Eon for what he did to his dragon family, Spyro makes a visit to Malefor to get help from him in finding his family. Malefor however, is logically against the idea of helping the guy who convinced his daughter to defect from his side and instead join the enemy and would rather take revenge on the young dragon.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bathos: There are many jokes that are cramped in during serious scenes in this episode. A good example is during Malefor's broadcast to Skylands where he talks about bargaining Spyro for his daughter Cynder, which in the middle of it cuts to Gary moving his hand around in the air, believing he is on his phone trying to swipe away an app.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Malefor's position as this becomes very obvious in this episode. He may be the King of the Underworld, is described by Eon as one of the most vile villains in Skylands, and is even the arch-enemy of Spyro's dragon family. But despite that, he doesn't do much evil by himself and instead waits for someone to come to him, as Spyro does in this episode and only then does Malefor actually do something. And according to Eon’s story in the last episode, Malefor assisted in no way at all in the banishment of Spyro’s family. He also seems to have a fear of Strykore, as he agrees to give Spyro over to Kaos when the latter wants the former and warns Malefor that he will suffer Strykore's wrath if he doesn't bargain.
  • Broken Pedestal: When Kaos hears from Strykore what his mother has kept hidden from him, who Strykore is and why she has refused to teach Kaos how to be a stronger sorcerer, his respect for her takes a massive nosedive.
  • Downer Ending: Cynder gets taken back to the Underworld by Malefor, Strykore is released back into Skylands by Kaos, and Spyro is turned Dark Spyro and becomes Strykore's minion.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Spyro is brought to Strykore by Kaos and gets his light eaten, which turns him into Dark Spyro who serves Strykore and sees the Skylanders as his enemies.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: During the much more serious Skylanders parts, Eruptor and Pop Fizz doesn't get too much to do aside from saying one line each.
  • A Twinkle in the Sky: Kaos gets his revenge on the Golden Queen by trapping her inside a sphere and launching her out into the endless sky.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: Both Kaos and Spyro's storylines from the season reach their conclusion in this episode. As such, the two plots present here share equal amounts of importance when normally the Skylanders or one of them has the main story while Kaos has a side story.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: The only reason it was easy for Kaos to release Strykore was because he knew an easy place to find a Skylander and how to convince said Skylander's captive to give the Skylander over, and he only knew this because Malefor showed a broadcast to the entire Skylands that he had Spyro. If Malefor never showed that he had Spyro for the entire Skylands, Strykore would've never been released from his prison, or it would at least not have gone so easy as it did in the episode.
  • Wham Shot: Now when the Skylanders' biggest battle is ahead of them, Eon tells his allies that from this point onward there will be no more secrets between them. So he takes off his helmet… and shows that he has the same birthmark on his forehead that Kaos has.
  • Xanatos Gambit: To try and get Spyro from Malefor, Kaos offers him the choice to either willingly hand him over or not. If Malefor does give him Spyro, Kaos gets what he came for, and if Malefor doesn't, Kaos will strike him down with his new powers, take Spyro anyway and tell Strykore that Malefor refused to collaborate. Malefor ends up choosing the former, as even he knows Strykore is someone you do not want to mess with.
