Recap / Scooby Doo And Guess Who S 1 E 16 One Minute Mysteries

Go To

Shaggy and Scooby aren't happy when their exploits with the gang keep interrupting their food binges with their buddy Barry Allen, so Barry decides to call on his "friend", The Flash, for help. Unfortunately, the rest of the gang feels Flash's methods mess up their mysteries, and even more unfortunately, Flash's old enemy the Trickster has been watching him help the mystery-solving teens and concocting an Evil Plan.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Alternate Continuity: The Flash episode shows that the series is not in continuity with the original series, given that Flash's interference causes several classic mysteries to take different courses.
  • Big Eater: The episode with The Flash starts with him devouring a stack of hamburgers in a blink of an eye (although this is justified as he needs to consume all those calories to fuel his Super-Speed). In fact, the Flash decides to help Mystery Inc. unmask villains so that he (as Barry) can hang out and eat with Shaggy and Scooby.
  • Friend of Masked Self: The Flash claims that he knows Barry, who asked him to help the gang so that Barry can hang out with Shaggy and Scooby more. Nobody ever makes the connection.
  • How Is That Even Possible?: The Flash finds it mystifying how the monster manages to be right behind the Scooby gang (twice) after they've already locked him outside.
  • I Am Spartacus: Shaggy and Scooby stall for time while Barry recharges his Super-Speed on their spare Scooby Snacks by walking up to the Trickster dressed in copies of the Flash's costume.
  • I Can Explain: Barry namedrops the trope when he forgets to take off the Flash's mask before walking in with a pile of burgers. Luckily, Shaggy and Scooby just think he's goofing off. Barry happily goes with it.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title refers to Donald J. Sobol's Two-Minute Mysteries.
  • Sadistic Choice: The Trickster kidnaps Fred, Daphne and Velma and ties them to separate poles in a factory full of bomb-holding teddy bears, believing that even Flash can't get all of them out before the bombs go off. He can either let two of them die or save all three by unmasking before a group of TV cameras.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Flash pulling Daphne, Velma, and Fred out of the exploding toy factory at high speed is reminiscent of a similar scene involving rival speedster Quicksilver from X-Men: Apocalypse.
    • The background music is reminiscent of Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle", which played during X-Men: Days of Future Past.
    • The restaurant where Barry, Shaggy and Scooby go to eat is Big Belly Burger, from the live-action Flash series.
  • Story-Breaker Power: The Flash shows that with his powers, he had what it took to lock up every last Monster of the Week that the Mystery Gang faced in a nanosecond, depriving the show of any drama. The rest of the gang outside of Shaggy and Scooby become exasperated by this after a while. Flash ultimately agrees to slow down so as not to ruin the experience for the others. He finds it interesting, but still incredibly slow.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: When Flash unmasks the Space Kook, he winds him up in a cable at super-speed. Just as Flash is preparing to take him to the penitentiary, his face goes green and his cheeks bulge. However, the camera focuses on Flash's disgusted expression rather than showing the culprit throw up.
  • Your Costume Needs Work: Even after seeing Barry with the Flash's mask on, Shaggy and Scooby don't make the connection, assuming that he's fooling around and telling him he doesn't resemble Flash at all.
