Recap / Scooby Doo And Guess Who S 1 E 10 Attack Of The Weird Al Osaurus

Go To

The rest of the gang are less than thrilled with Shaggy and Scooby's desire to attend singer/songwriter "Weird Al" Yankovic's accordion band camp. Then a mystery crops up that for once has the group in complete agreement: a mysterious dinosaur has been attacking Weird Al's camp and scaring away all the customers. If the art of the instrument is to remain alive, the group will have to track down and trap the monster.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Big "NO!": Weird Al screams "NOOOOOOOOOOO!" when all of his accordion students leave.
  • Danger Takes a Backseat: The Mystery Machine seemingly outruns the Allosaurus, but then it turns out it has caught up and is sitting in the back seat. Fred quickly ejects it, and it tears off the bumper.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The dinosaurs turn out to be Pete and Pete, the paleontologist's student helpers who only appear once for a few minutes before being unmasked.
  • Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: Weird Al chuckles to himself and calls the dinosaur "dumb" while it's standing nearby looking for Shaggy and Scooby. It immediately goes after him.
Weird Al [singing]: ♪ Here's a tip you should never ignore — It's a bad idea to taunt a dinosaur! ♪
  • Exact Words: Midway through the episode, even Shaggy and Scooby get annoyed with Weird Al's constant accordion solos and he agrees to stop playing the accordion. Then he starts up on the theremin.
  • I Call It "Vera": Weird Al calls his accordion "Sally" and claims "she" has feelings.
  • Ironic Nursery Rhyme: While he, Shaggy and Scooby are trying to avoid the dinosaur and get out of a cave, Weird Al does a variation of "Hush, Little Baby" to help Scooby stay calm; it talks about how they'll be dino food if they can't find an exit. Shaggy and Scooby point out that it's not helping.
  • Opinion Flip Flop: Weird Al is at first upset about Michelle's parents pulling her out of camp and begs her not to go...until the dinosaur turns up, whereupon he frantically tells her to leave immediately.
  • Red Herring: Big Bob, a local who wants to mine the mountain, turns up midway through the episode to gloat about how the dinosaur attacks will mean he can buy the land cheaply. He isn't the culprit.
