Roland and Jocelyn have a fight, resulting in Roland staying at the motel and disrupting the Roses's routine. Meanwhile, Alexis and David check out an apartment.


Tropes:

  • Feud Episode: Roland and Jocelyn are fighting, and Roland's arrival at the motel subsequently strains Johnny and Moira's relationship.
  • The Gadfly: David teases Alexis about the hotel maybe being haunted, telling her he's seen ghosts and playing on her fears.
  • Haunted House: At the end of the episode, David taunts Alexis about the motel being haunted.
  • Plot Parallel: Between the show's two married couples, both of whom are on each other's nerves in this episode. The rational partners, Johnny and Jocelyn, have a conversation about their frustrations, while the immature partners, Moira and Roland, insult each other to blow off steam. Both make up by the end.
  • Status Quo Is God: Alexis and David look at an apartment, but they can't move out of the motel without spoiling the show's premise of spoiled rich folks forced into close proximity and poverty.
  • Too Good to Be True: The furnished apartment the siblings look at is spacious, airy, and in a relatively nice part of town. David expresses surprise when he learns how low the rent is. It turns out that the previous ownernote  killed himself in the apartment, which turns both of them off.
  • Volleying Insults: Moira and Roland insult each other and seem to be having a fantastic time, until Moira takes it too far by shouting that his marriage is as blighted as his town and he has no one to blame but himself. She immediately realizes that she crossed a line, and they're able to settle down and commiserate after she backpedals.
